A Thanksgiving Story

I remember this! I thought it was a reprint from something I've read in a published work until I got to the comments afterwards. I love this story and it WOULD make a fantastic book!

Thanks shell2 and case. It is my dream to actually make money writing a book.

I think you've got a good start with this story.

Still love it. Thank you, lisat !

Thank you all for reading it again.

I had forgotten this story. Lovely to read it again! Thanks!

Great story Lisa. Thank you.

Lisat, are you my Lisa? If so, did you move? I miss you!
And a really wonderful story. It would make a wonderful short story/novel.
Laura of The Blue Plate

By now, this is a chestnut. I loved reading it again.

L.

I'm so sorry you are not MY NEIGHBOR. Please know that a large number of us are working on "fixing" the reasons you are not!
We will win this and FIX this!
Best Regards,
Ron Carter

Lisa, loved this story, and didn't realize until further down the thread that it was originally posted two years ago; I must have missed it then. Adversity does make for good stories, but I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving with as little adversity as possible.

Jasper -- It was 2009 -- 3 years ago oh oh

Oh, I think I only noticed the date when the comments were in the 2010 range, and I never scrolled back up to the top. Thanks!

Folks, I think this is one of MOL's poltergeist type problems!

The dates are not real based on my experience. Perhaps our hosts can help!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Ron Carter

Yes Laura, I am your Lisa. I moved to Maine very unexpectedly in September because I wanted my son to be able to take AP courses, which they would not allow him to take at Columbia H.S. His highest grade, 92, is now in his AP course, so we feel justified in having moved for the reason we did. It was his idea. In August when we were visiting family in Maine, he said, 'can I go to school here?' We thought about it, and I knew they would let him take AP classes and so I agreed that not only could he go to school in Maine (he offered to live with my sister), that the family would move there for 21 months.

Then I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer on October 1st and am finding that it is a good to be surrounded by family so they can offer support to me, my husband and my son. As important, I think because they can see me, they feel more reassured than if I was hundreds of miles away and they were worrying about me. The prognosis is good and I hope I follow the norm in that respect. If you want to read about my journey I have a blog on MOL titled PULVERIZING p.e.s.k.y.

Thank you all for reading my story for the first or second or third time. I don't remember when I first posted it, but I think 2009 sounds about right.

I miss Maplewood and all my friends but I feel that for right now I am where I am supposed to be.

Ron, I wish you were a neighbor of mine, wherever I live. I will say that I really liked the people who interviewed us at the co-op board meeting. I hope everyone is doing well.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Same here ... wonderful story! and best wishes for a lovely holiday!

thank you, sac. I will have chemo the day before and so I will have side effects like biting on anything (turkey) will make my jaw tighten unpleasantly. (Who knew glands in the jaw would respond that way and in my case, who know there were even glands there? I sure didn't.) My fingers will have daggers of sensation like static electricity shooting through if I touch anything remotely chilled. My eyes will twitch uncontrollably and the area around my lips will feel as if novacaine was setting in. But I will still enjoy eating at a restaurant and having my immediate family together, and the side effects will diminish over the period of a week. So life is good, and I am giving thanks for much that is good in my life.

Lisa,
Only praying and believing the best for you. You have an indomitable spirit and I know that you will come through this, scars and war wounds and all.
Looking forward to seeing you soon and applauds to your son,
Laura

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I appreciate the very special people who created this on-line community board, as well as those who share their thoughts here. The voices of quite a few people here have supported me emotionally, and I thank you for this.

Lisat, I enjoyed reading his again today as much as I enjoyed it the first time you posted it! If you write a book, I will certainly buy it. You are an excellent writer and story teller! Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

Thanks so much emmie. I hope you had a nice holiday.
