Thanks for the new Parenting category, Jamie and Dave!
My son is turning 6 this year and we've decided to introduce an allowance. I'm just wondering if anyone uses an app for this rather than cash in jars, and if so, which one?
It seems like that would be easier in many ways, and also helps kids start to understand online banking. But it's less tangible than putting money in a jar or wallet, so is that too much of a downside?
I use a simple Google spreadsheet on my phone. We list all of the deposits and withdrawls, so he can see where he is anytime.
I have just started using chorebot

Rookie question - I've never used Google spreadsheets. Is there an app for that? Where is it stored?

They are on the web at http://drive.google.com. There are mobile apps for it, too.
When ours were little we gave them cash. By the time they were teens, we used spreadsheets/Quicken to keep track.
Some options to consider.
I personally would love a old fashion passbook type of tracking system, so that kids learn to add/subtract while doing the numbers themselves.
I highly recommend reading http://www.amazon.com/First-National-Bank-Dad-Foolproof/dp/1416534253/
Any spreadsheet app or program can handle the math.
I read that and was pleased to see that we had established a similar system. It is great to go to a store and not have to say no to buying stuff.
