Alternatives to a Bagster

We have a small amount of bulk trash that the garbage man won't take.  A Bagster costs $180 to pick-up, which is outrageous for the small amount we have.  Are there any dumps we could use?

Alternatively, if someone else in the area also has a small amount of bulk items and would like to share a bagster, that could work for us.

If you are in SO, today is container day - just schlep it to the recycling depot.

We're in Maplewood.  I wonder if they'll allow residents of Maplewood to participate.  Also, will they take anything?

South Orange residents only.

If you can get it there, there's a public transfer station (dump) on Frelinghuysen Avenue in Newark.

Thanks, Jim!  I'll look into that.

I know people will yell at me but I usually just put a contractor bag in my car full of junk and when I find a dumpster throw it in. The inability to throw away small amounts of construction materials make it almost impossible for homeownets. I did not know about the transfer station in Newark but a one ton minimum is a fair amount. I miss the trash guys in Philly, they would take anything and the transfer stations we're free and you even got to pull the switch on the trucks to crunch up the junk.

Do you have any friends in West Orange? WO has weekly bulk pick-up at the curb, which was VERY helpful when we were moving out two years ago. If you  know someone who would let you put the items out in front of their house for the next pick-up, it would be worth giving them a call.

Cleg, the one ton minimum refers to the fee, not the amount dumped. You can dump less. Given that the waste is recycled, and you'd be dumping legally rather than illegally, seems like the way to go...

We're in Maplewood and doing a fairly substantial garage/basement clean out this weekend. If I can figure out how to PM and we have enough for part of a Bagster I will let you know by the end of the weekend....

Bulk Drop-Off Program

Residents can bring unwanted bulk household items such as furniture, refrigerators, washers, and carpeting.  Absolutely no construction items of any type will be allowed.

June 6 th                8am – 2pm          Maplewood Recycling Center (359 Boyden St.)

@afa that would be awesome!!  We have a small amount of construction debris.  Let me know if you have space and we'll compensate you for the use.

Thanks!
