Attic Renovation (Bathroom Exhaust Fans)

To make a long story short, a general contractor who does a lot of work in SO/MWD, underbid our attic renovation and for non completion of the job (started last November 2014), I fired him (PM me for details if you would like to know who to avoid).

The next item on the punch list is to run the exhaust fans for our 2nd floor bathroom fan and for the attic bathroom. Once the fans are run, I can lay the final plywood and get on to the wallboard.

Who does that type of work? Plumbers? Handyman? Recommendations?

Regards,

RCH

Will you need electrical service installed for the fans? Or can you work with existing light fixtures and switches? If you don't need electrical work, a handyman could do it. Not a plumber. If a fan was exhausting in a particularly exposed location, I might think about having a roofer do it to make sure the exterior was well sealed.

We did the same thing. Stromko Electric did this work

agree my electrician did ours

RCH -- sorry about the mess. sounds like you're a proficient DIYr. If the vent does not have a heater, should be fine on an existing circuit. Those with a heater need a dedicated circuit. Electrician could hook up the unit itself. In terms of the vent -- can you vent to the eaves or through a wall? In that case, could easily by DIY or handy person. OTOH - if you're going to vent through the roof, a roofer (but then I'm conservative with those kinds of things) Good luck! /p

Stromko electric is excellent.

Related question: anybody have a specific recommendation for a handyman or roofer that would just put a vent through the roof? When we bought our house we quickly determined that our second floor bathroom vent connects to the attic! We don't use it but would love to get it fixed at some point. I also need to put in a new DWV vent through the roof eventually so this could be a good combo job for someone.

Walking around town, I saw a sign for Bald Eagle Handyman and The Honey Do contractors. I will call them both and get a quote. The funny thing is that the fans are all set up electrically, the only thing that needs to be done is run the actual tubing to the outside (i.e. cut hole in the siding and place the vent duct in the side of the house). I love renovations and contractors, said no-one ever (SNL).

TGBrew,

I think (and everyone please advise on this) that only pipes that vent the sewer/water system in your house go through the roof and venting your bathroom fans typically go through your walls.

PeteG,

It's as heater/fan/nightlight/light. A 20 amp line is in place. grin

Plus another 20 amp line for the heated floor. I had to have All State put in a 100 amp Sub-panel.
