blue-green flakes clogging my faucet archived

Every few months my kitchen faucet flow slows down. I take apart the faucet head and find all these tiny blue-green flakes, looks almost like dishwasher soap (but it's not). I clean out the screen, and the usually it gets better. Now it seems like it's deeper inside the faucet, can't seem to fix it. I've tried soaking these things in vinegar, thinking it was related to hard water, but that didn't work. Anyone else have this problem and more importantly, a solution? I'm afraid that if I replace the faucet, the same darn thing will happen to the new one.
I don't know the answer, but the blue green is copper.

You are seeing deposits of minerals that have been coated with copper tarnish.

Replacing the faucet will not help.

I suggest that once a month you run the bath tub for 10 minutes or so to flush out the loose stuff, pull the head of the faucets and flush them (after you flushed via the bath tub) as you clean the screens and other parts.

A whole house filter will catch them if they are coming from the street plumbing but if they are developing in the house piping systems you only have the flush option to work with.

Good luck

Chances are it is coming from your water heater, It could be from the dip tube deteriorating or sediment from the bottom of it. How old is the water heater? It may be time for a new one..

Had the same problem until we changed out out ten year old water heater.

I've heard the dip tube theory, but I replaced the 10 year old heater 3 months ago, and the problem persists. Bummer

There may be particles still in your water pipes and faucets sometime you need to flush them to get it out..

Someone mentioned a whole house filter... approx. how often does the filter need to be changed?
Also, what is a dip tube?
