can anyone help me with uber questions

uber doesn't seem to want to act intelligently.  i downloaded ubereats, decided I didn't want to use it and deleted it without even entering a credit card number.  a few days later, I got an email that someone tried to use my account from another country.  to be safe, i decided to reinstall the app and change the password directly in case the email was a scam.

but the app won't let me log into the account.  i did do it though my computer.  but now what happens if I ever want to use uber in the future?

it only gives me a spot to enter my number to register a new account.  there is no button to bring up any menu to get into the account.

also, i have a neighbor who refuses to use technology..claims he doesn't know how except to check sports scores....would I be able to lay in bed, order an uber for him..without him being in possession of my phone?  or do you need to keep the phone on you for  the ride?  he's about4 houses down, would it let me enter his address as the pick up or would he have to wait by my house?  i see you can order a ride for someone else, but the video I saw said it would only let you do that after the app recognizes you are not near the pick up site...but he is near by.  he would need a ride to the train station or airport with luggage and it would just be easier for him to not have to drag it to my house, especially if the weather was bad.

i am attaching a screen shot of what the app looks like when i can only register a new account, not log into the existing one.

this is a consistent problem, i have with tech companies...they have no clue and only insist I am an idiot..when every other time it turned out to be a problem with their app...even with dozens of people reporting a problem, they keep telling the users they are stupid (technically they don't say that, but that is what they imply)

I can't help you but I will confirm Uber acted oddly for me recently.  Ordered one from Newark recently, got a call from the driver (strange), we got cut off and I tried to call him back.  When it answered, I was prompted to put in my phone number for verification.  I entered it and got a message saying it was invalid / not registered to my account.  Shortly thereafter, my driver / car pulled up and it was not the guy who called me.  So now I am uber-paranoid, pun intended.  Nice security, Uber.

Switch to Lyft!   smile

(I just got approved and will start driving on Monday!)

cant do lyft.  Another neighbor drives for them.  Hes made threats and is in general a big a h.  And too stupid to decline the ride and would show up.

Does your neighbor qualify for Gogo Grandparent?  For a fee, they will arrange Uber or Lyft rides for seniors who do not have a smart phone.  If you want more information, post query here or PM and I will give you further information.

he's not a senior.  he has a smart phone for work, just refuses to use it except when he 'has to'  he has uber on the phone...to use it, he tips a hotel concierge or a bartender to order the uber for him when he is away.  but when he is leaving from home early in the morning, I don't have time to be meeting up with him to order the uber for him.  i've never actually used uber, but if i could do it for him at my convenience I would.

uber can be used with a computer, so I am guessing you don't actually need the phone with you after you order the uber

... You would need a phone or computer with the app for the return trip unless you planned on using a different mode of transit going back.

Lyft sends you a picture of your driver - you could just decline if it’s him.

and when i decline and gets mad at me ..what do I do?  situation is hostile enough.

I was taking Uber home from the airport and the first driver they connected me with asked where I was going (which is odd since I stated my destination already).  I told them where I was going and then they declined the assignment.  I had to wait another 10-15 minutes for the next person.  Not a big deal to wait that long but it was annoying that the first driver dumped me for something probably more lucrative or in another direction.

Has he ever driven you? If you one/two star him you’ll never be matched again and he won’t know who gave him the rating. It’s a d!ck move but he won’t ever show up at your door.

oh no, i will not get in a car with him, he's worked hard at making a big A of himself in the neighborhood--for example, he thinks its cute to bring his dog out to bark for a long time at 10pm at the neighbors pets in their windows...and had poor social skills before that i don't even know how he got accepted, drives around with a headlight out for weeks at a time..but I'm sure he didn't tell them about it.  there is a malfunction that causes it to go out multiple times per year and 2 years ago his car was 10 years old, but he is still using it for lyft.

Seriously, try Lyft.

On their app you indicate where you are and where you’re going and it’s sent out to drivers in the area who see all the information before accepting the call.

Plus Lyft pays a higher percentage of the fare to its drivers than Uber.

Not to mention they pay bonuses to drivers over a certain number of rides driven.

I learned the above from Lyft drivers who had previously worked for Uber
