Central Air Repair: Experience and Recommendation

Basement flooded last night and we realized that our ancient HVAC unit was the culprit. After turning it off, we called around to see who could help us out.

We tried four places. Here's how it played out:

Speer Air: Got machine instead of service. No response yet.

Wooley: Left message with service, no response yet.

Ultimate Air (Wayne): quick callback, next-day availability. 973-694-7810.

Right One (Maplewood): quick callback, available within two hours. Problem fixed by 11 am! 908-273-8773

So--while all of these places might do a great job--if you don't have a contract and need quick service on a hot day, I highly recommend Right One!

Coolly yours, dg

Another recommendation for Right One. Very responsive - available next day to fix AC unit.

Wow, that's great to know. I had no idea they did AC stuff

I'm a happy Right One emergency-boiler alumna. Glad they could help, but sorry to hear about the flood.

+1 for Right One. I have used them for several plumbing emergencies and they've always been very responsive and do a professional job. This year I used them for A/C maintenance and was also happy that they could come on short notice!

I've used them for AC service, misc valves and supplies, kitchen faucet and a HW heater. On time, clean, knowledgable. All I would look for in a plumber.

Update: unfortunately the problem wasn't fixed; a new flood this morning (now we know why the basement isn't finished). Called and they are on their way again.

Even more of a fan of Right One now!

The head AC guy, Jay, arrived in less than an hour, and spent the next two hours taking things apart. Found additional problems--rust blocking a tube, need for replacement of a couple of small parts--and fixed them. Serviced the whole apparatus. Apologized profusely for the inconvenience and the lack of thoroughness of the other guy, who is new and is being trained. Completely cleaned out the flooded area. Did not charge anything.

Twenty minutes later, I got a call from the owner, Dennis, to follow up and make sure everything had been resolved. More apologies. No defensiveness.

That's what I am talking about! Professional from beginning to end.

@deborahg -- Interesting to hear. Glad the problem is fixed for you. I wonder if your above-and-beyond service (and no extra charge) was at all influenced by your posting on MOL. Were they aware you were doing so? My one and only experience with Right One (about a year ago) was kind of mixed. On the positive side, a repair person came quickly and quickly fixed an internal toilet leak. However, the charge was exorbitant. When I called subsequently to question such a high charge, the response was: "Well, that's why people normally batch their tasks and have several done at once." So, what was one to conclude from that? Next time we have an ongoing leak I should just ignore it until I have another problem?

To my knowledge, they didn't know I was posting, unicorn. I guess your mileage will vary!

My AC went out last night and Right One was at my house within an hour of my call to them this morning. I had no idea they fixed ACs until I saw this thread, so thanks Deborah.

So far this year they've replaced my hit water heater and boiler. Expensive year, but they've been great through it all.

Another happy Right One customer. They came within 2 hours the other day when it was sooo hot and fixed the problem. The line were clogged so the water was not draining and over flowed the drain pan.
