CHS - Preliminary Course Scheduling

We got an email from Dr. Giordano on the CHS email blast regarding the preliminary schedules being sent out. We have not received a copy yet. From the email the drop/add period is this week -- 8/3- 8/7!!! That does seem a little early from previous years. I recall drop add period through the beginning of school.

. In the email they state that the final schedules will be available on powerschool- Note powerschool is not up and running yet for the year (usually closer to first day of school).

Has anyone at all received a schedule in the mail yet?

Nope. I thought having the drop/add period in the middle of summer was strange as well. Perhaps it's a typo and it should have been 9/3-9/7? Doesn't school start on the 2nd or 3rd

Nothing here either.

My daughter who will be a senior this year said that they are probably doing it this way to stop teacher shopping.

No 1st period, thank goodness, because we ain't morning folk!!! One question- child has only one elective, Art, for the entire year. Don't electives switch every quarter or semester

Electives do change every semester but there are semester art classes and whole year art classes.

Many electives are all year -- languages and performing arts like band and chorus, for example.

Art never has been a full year, going on previous child experience.

Child may have a study hall or unassigned period during the semester they do not have art. Freshmen are not usually allowed an unassigned period, though, except for period 1.

Usually people complain the schedules are late. My kid's arrived today and it looks just fine.

Question: my incoming sophomore, who turns 16 in November, got Driver Ed Q3. Will they change this? TIA.

So happy the schedule arrived today and the kid is happy. He has 2 of the 3 electives he wanted, but that's just fine. He is scheduled 1-9 with no study hall but said that is what he wanted. So glad we don't need to go through the hassle of changing anything. Last year was a real mess!

Yup, we had the same -- periods 1 to 9 with no study hall. But he took both band and chorus so them's the breaks.

Only one error that I could see; he did a summer course so his math assignment is off. Assuming that's an easy fix.

callista - If it's Art I, II, etc. those classes are a full year

lbr - they usually schedule all the Driver's Ed classes in the same quarter even if your child turns 16 sooner.

Microgem,

Thanks. Yes it is Art I. What a waste of a full year of electives for him!!!! He isn't even REMOTELY into art. Crap.

He has to take a full year of an arts elective -- music, visual arts, photography, film, animation. If he has a preference, you can try to drop/add it now.

In four years, my younger kid's schedule was only correct once (Senior year, at least!) and the other years not even close. One year it took until the end of September to get it right and one year they never could get it right ... sigh!

We received my daughters schedule yesterday-- and will have to request a change (drop/add period -- this week) Wrong elective for graduating senior... The preliminary schedule does not have the teachers listed yet so this change in scheduling is definitely seeking in part to stop students/parents from teacher shopping.

My 9th grader was assigned a period one finance class which they then pulled her from because it's for 10th graders. How unusual is it for a 9th grader to have no period one?

Not unusual at all! She should consider herself lucky.

I just found out my Junior year son couldn't change his schedule. He was told that period of time is over. But he remembered last year that he was able to rearrange his schedule at this same time. So apparently this is a new change from the principal? Very frustrating. How can a student know in the summer that he or she isn't happy with their schedule???? I'm calling the school tomorrow, sigh, more bureaucracy.

BTW apparently this year the school doesn't supply the class agendas that the kids always got? Staples it is, for $25.00. Sigh.

I thought it was a little nuts that they issued the schedules the first week of August and also said that was the only week for changes. What if your kid was away at camp? I'm sure there are exceptions.

Agree.

I think the school only gives out agendas to freshmen. Look at Amazon for slightly better prices.
