We've always hauled it home, but I've become aware of some services at both schools that will pick up and store boxes for the summer. Google [university name] summer storage. Here's an example of one such service:

Dorm to Dorm is available in some places, and similar services are elsewhere:
http://dorm2dorm.com/?gclid=COHE0ZqSg8UCFc4dgQodzFUACAOur son usually brought all of his stuff home each spring and brought it back to school in the fall. He says that's what most of his friends were doing, too. Don't know what the kids whose homes were outside driving distance did, though. For us, it was only a 2-hour drive.
My kid is 1000 miles away and most of her stuff went in storage last summer while she did a study abroad program. This summer she is staying at school, but would have gone the storage route again otherwise.
Our kids both went to school in Midwest. One stored in frat house attic over summer. One's school had great service that let you pick up boxes and tape, and they then picked up packed items directly from dorm, stored over summer or year/semester if you went abroad, and then dropped it back at new dorm room. They also would ship things home for the summer. We came to view the expense as just another part of already expensive endeavor.
Mine shared a storage unit for the summer with three others. Not too expensive. Need either a car or extra time on pick/up drop/ off day to go drop off an d/or get it.

Hi.
For those of you who have a college student; do they usually bring all of their belongings home for the summer, or do they store some stuff over the summer near their school.
Thanks!
