Cool STEAM education, here in metro NJ, for not all that much money

N.J. school injects engineering into art class

"....The Weehawken school district is embracing STEAM in a big way this school year after a lot of work this summer.

McParland was gifted with a new 3,200-square-foot STEAM studio art space where the old wood shop was located, and a new STEM lab where the old 1,500-square-foot art studio was located. (Wood shop classes are out, the district says, as a result of declining enrollment.)

With the township's help, the district raised $80,000 through the local education foundation for renovations and new equipment....

..."Engineers are definitely in demand," McParland said, while standing next to a drilling machine she plans to incorporate into art classes this year, "(but) unless you think of a creative idea, you're just going to be stagnant.""

First I've heard of STEAM (let alone cool steam!), which is particularly embarrassing for a great-nephew of a former RISD graphic arts professor. Thanks for posting this.

Meanwhile, my local is 85 people short trying to fill calls for carpenters every day. STEAM sounds good, don't get me wrong.
