Cost of NY Times subscription

We have a weekend subscription for delivery of the Times. Husband thinks he is going to save money by going strictly electronic. I will be happy not to have all that newspaper in my house, but have to say that I miss a lot by reading mostly electronically. How does the cost compare? Anybody else switch from paper delivery to online? Are you happy with the switch?

The only thing I miss is the ease of doing the crossword puzzles.

Everything else is an upgrade.

And yes, not having newspapers around the house is great.

Hard to read on the laptop in the lav though

We're happy with electronic only, and we can access the paper via phone, tablet, and computer. Very convenient. (We do the Ledger electronically, too. In fact, we view the Ledger as the NJ section of the Times!)

Btw, if you or your husband gets an electronic subscription, the spouse gets access as well for no extra charge.

Not sure about crossword puzzles, but I have a dim recollection that the Times may offer them separately. Someone else may know, or you can Google it.

Iphone.....

And no ink on my......

You have to pay extra for electronic crossword puzzles. I find that outrageous, especially since I have a subscription to the Times. However, I swallowed my pride and paid, because I find the electronic puzzles to be easier on my eyes. Still, every so often i fire off a protesting e-mail to the Times. Who can it hurt?

What's Sunday without a big, fat, heavy copy of the NYT with coffee on the deck??!

We pay $56 for 7 day delivery monthly. It comes with free electronic access. We also get email Insider and daily recaps. How does the electronic only price compare?

No intention of dropping paper, we love rustling through the pages and reading the stories. Also, there is that crossword puzzle!

I could go electronic. As much as I appreciate the iconic effect of paper publications, I'm allergic to newsprint!

We switched from 7-day delivery to digital only earlier this year because for some reason delivery of our paper moved from ~5am to ~6:15am, which was not early enough for us to read it before leaving for work. I was hesitant about making the change because I thought we (especially my wife) would never read the electronic version at all, but I was wrong. I think we read the digital form just as much as we ever read the print version.

Really, the biggest issue for us is that we didn't really think through the fact that we no longer have a never-ending supply of poop bags for the dog.

grin your comment made me think back to days when we tore up newspapers to put in our cat box! Never could foresee a time when buying sacks of organic, non-polluting, allergy proof, environmentally safe material would come along!

Not to derail the thread, but I've also had to develop a habit of picking up a copy of the Village Voice or the other free papers every week or so, to use in my charcoal starter chimney.

Last year, I switched the weekender paper delivery to my mother- out of state- and kept the digital for our primary. It replaced her weekend subscription to the local gannet paper. She is old enough that she hasn't engaged the internet and we are young enough to value the lack of paper around the house. Win win.

@BrickPig, we get both the Times and LEdger. You need bags? We have plenty..LMK

Haha! We have a neighbor who brings us a supply every few weeks, but thanks. If we run short sometime I'll hit you up.

Fortunately, there are tiny local newspapers all over CT that get dropped off in your mailbox whether you want them or not, so we always have starter materials for our wood-burning stove. smile
