Cost of Preschool in Maplewood/South Orange

We are new to the area, and I'm having trouble finding concise information about the cost of preschool here. Apparently there is no free/state-funded preschool? Can anyone give a range of prices for private full-day preschool annual tuition? What can we expect? Is there a good source of information about this?

$1200-$1400ish

Totally depends on the age of the child and the school in question.

Well, OP said preschool so I'm assuming the child is probably 3 or 4. There are only a handful of full-time preschools in Maplewood and South Orange, so based on our experience they seem to fall in that range. If any are outside that range, please share...I was just trying to give a ballpark to help OP along.

And, sorry, I realize she asked for annual tuition. I gave monthly as thinking about annual makes me a little sick cheese

YMCA has the longest hours and is among the most expensive. All Ys offer assistance for low income families.

YMCA and Village Babies offer preschool from 7:00am to 7:00pm. There is an additional cost at the Y for extended care between 6-7 pm but ends up being the same as VB which is the same no matter when you pick up.

Totri's and Village Babies' hours are as long as the Y's, I think, and both are less expensive than the Y.

I believe Little Stages is as well, closing at 6:30pm.

Yes for the babies, but not for the pre-school. Following the recent increase, VB is more expensive than the Y if you are not using the 6-7pm after care at the Y. If you do they are about the same.

I have zero knowledge about Totri and Village Babies' vacation calendar, but that's another thing to keep in mind: how often is the preschool closed? Do they close down for spring break/summer break/etc? My daughter attends the Y, which is only closed for about 7 weekdays a year (New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and the day after, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day.) That makes a huge difference when planning time off at work.

VB has similar closes. They do close for MLK. There is also 2 days of employee development (April and August) and 1 or 2 days in May for graduation.

We love the YMCA! I have two kids there ages 4 and 2 and they love it too. I unfortunately had to enroll them a bit far in the Summit YMCA (10-15min drive) because the local YMCA had a long waitlist. Cost is c. $1,700 per child for full time (8AM to 6PM). They take swimming lessons and have a nice outdoor area. The food is so-so, but everything else is great. Hope this is useful!

How much does lunch cost?

Thanks, everyone, for this info. It's helpful!

Not sure of the pricing, but if you're looking for full care either 10 or 12 months, you can check out the JCC in W. Orange. Being in the JCC, they have great stuff like swimming and a big gym included in the program. Their number is 973-530-3479.
