Dry Cleaning Comforters?

I'm kicking myself for having purchased an expensive comforter for college daughter that is "dry clean only."

Anybody have experience with machine washing Urban Outfitters comforters? It definitely needs to be cleaned.

Thank you.

What is it made of? If it is a rayon or similar, then dry cleaning might be the only way to deal with it.

I take my down comforters to the laundromat on Irvington Ave (between Fairview and Ward) for them to wash. They also do bulk dry cleaning that would be much, much less expensive than taking to someplace like Gleasons. You could take it to them and see what they would recommend.

Good luck.

I have successfully washed comforters that pretended to be dry clean only in the past, but they were always polyester. You need a pretty big washer, too, if the comforter is really poofy. Not every fabric can take it.

Exactly. Although it depends on what the fill is made of, too, not just the shell...

I've successfully washed comforters at home and on a nice day, hung them out on my deck to dry in the sun or have taken them to the laundromat on Valley to dry. The big dryers really cuts the time in half but be careful of the temp setting.

Cold water soak (lift the lid of the machine to stop the agitation), spin, line dry out of the sun.
