Could anyone who has recent experience there please comment on how play-based (or not) they are, and how much reading/writing/math are pushed (or not) in the 4-5 year olds? Thanks!

Reading/writing/math are not pushed at all, but I will say that I was pleased with my daughters teachers when she was in the 4's last year. She was able to recognize some sight words. She was well prepared for Kindergarten this year. If we hadn't decided to send our kids to Golda Och, I would have kept my son there for the 4's this year as well. It was just easier for me to have him in pre-k in the same school my daughter goes to.
In our experience, the closest thing to criticism for the JCC vis a vis SOMA is that it's a bit further than Beth El/TBTI/MJC/Oheb and it has far fewer SOMA families. Otherwise, I've always heard good things.
