FIOS Battery Back-UP

Not sure what the back up does. My internet, phone and cable are all not working. ???

The battery backup is to keep your phone working when the power to your house goes down. Since it uses a battery, it can maintain that power for a finite amount of time

Does your house have power?

The interruption to your phone service might be caused by a fiber cable breakage.

Since your router is powered by house power, your internet will go down when you lose power.

Thanks Tom. No power at home and there must be a fiber cable breakage somewhere in the area as the phone stopped working several hours after the power went out.

It sounds like the back up battery then worked as it gave you phone use for several hours after you lost the rest of your power.

The back-up battery only works for 8 hours.

My Verizon box got "fried" when my power came back on Thursday night.  Verizon came on Monday, and replaced the box - which had a battery backup - with a much smaller box without a battery backup.  I asked the tech about the absence of a battery backup.  He said not necessary, the new boxes won't fry during power surges.  Yeah but what about a regular power outage?  Uh-oh to the new box.

Not sure what the tech said is fully accurate. I have one of the smaller ones with the ONT and the battery backup in my den. It doesn't have the big casing you see when they put it in the basement or the outside but it is a battery backup. (In fact mine got stuck in some weird position and caused both phone, tv and internet to freeze up without any reason due to power outages, etc. This was on Sunday.)  Of course if you only have cordless phones then a working battery backup won't help at all. Keeping a landline to plug in should still work in the event of a power outage for the 8 or so hours as mentioned above.

Hmm, so since I have cancelled my landline altogether, I didn;t need to replace the battery in my Verizon box in basement? Will it work if I pull it out altogther? The back up battery of course started beeping late at night after my power went out... could I have just removed the battery instead of silencing it every once in a while...
