Friend Keeps Receiving Message From Me - Spoofed Messenger Account?

There was a message on my answering machine this morning.  It was from a friend - I recognized the voice. She says that she keeps receiving the same message from me over and over.  I did send this message once weeks ago; but, have not done so in weeks.  Is the problem on my end or her's?  In either case, what, if anything, can be done to resolve it?

As soon as I had posted the above comment, I found a message in messenger from a friend alerting me that my messenger account may have been spoofed.  That could be the source of the problem outlined in the OP.  Is there anything I can do to remediate the problem at my end?  I have already posted a warning to my time line and requested that anyone receiving a suspicious message from me let me know through another medium before responding.

Is this Facebook? Have you changed your password?

So after getting your message,Joan, I immediately changed my Facebook password and when I tried to change my MOL password it seems that I my original password was no longer valid. I did eventually reset my MOL password by clicking on I forgot my password. I also got a second friend request from you on FB. OY  All passwords changed, now what?

LL:  Changing passwords won't help since this is a spoof (dulpicate account) not a hack (taking over an existing acount).  Please ignore the duplicate Facebook request.  There should be no problem with MOL.

This is Facebook messenger.  Problem is with a spoof (see LL's comment about a duplicate friend request). She and I have been Facebook friends for years. Since someone has not taken over my actual account, changing my password won't solve the problem.

A Facebook search showed three active accounts (three different persons) and two blank (spoofed?) accounts.  Would suspicious messages be coming from one of the two blank accounts?

Facebook doesn't exactly make it easy to find, but there is a section on what to do if you suspect someone on FB is impersonating you or someone else:

Hacked and Fake Accounts

Thank you for the link.  I can still get into my account and post as me.  Photo, timeline, DOB, etc. are unchanged.  Several Facebook friends claim to have received messages from me that I did not write.  That is the extent of the problem.  I don't see an option in Hacked and Fake Accounts that addresses this.  Facebook support in general is far from user friendly but I already knew this.

On advice of offspring, I increased my privacy settings to maximum and changed my password.  Please let me know if those of you on messenger are still receiving suspicious messages from me.
