Gmail account malfunctioning

For at least three months I have been having troubles accessing my gmail messages.  Sometimes I open the application and no messages show, other times they show, but I can't access a message that I want to read.  I get error 2003 which tells me that the system encountered a problem, and that I should try it again.  The system hasn't been fixed in three months; I think I waited long enough.

I tried looking for a solution in google, but I found none.  I also did not find a phone number to ask for help.

The trouble began when I began getting notices that my storage capacity was reaching its limit.  I cleaned it up, and now I have tons of space, but the trouble hasn't stopped.

I reached close to capacity, because I have an excel file on google drive which is frequently amended.  I wanted to synchronize it to the file on my computer, but I seem to have given permission to have all the computer backed up.  I don't need that; I have other software that do that function for me.

I would appreciate the help.  This is a very frustrating problem.

Hi Copihue,

As a non-techie, I will tell you my experience briefly, in the small possibility it may help.  My gmail was taking forever to open, and I kept getting a time-out error message.  The error message invited me to request windows to do an error test.  I finally clicked on it, and some settings were changed which seemed to help a lot.  I also find that going to my computer company's webpage and downloading updated drivers helps with similar issues sometimes.

Meanwhile, on a google search I found this:  To stop syncing (with google drive) completely, you can sign out of your account.

  1. On your computer, click Backup and Sync .
  2. Click More. Preferences.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Disconnect account.
  5. Click Disconnect.

Finally, frequent rebooting of my internet router is sometimes useful.  Good luck, and thanks for the Chile updates, very interesting!

So far, so  good.  I have never done this before, and it is taking time to read everything.  This morning gmail was working, but I have to see if it lasts.

Nothing much to add, except I had a similar situation--capped by all of my mail disappearing.  I even tried to get customer support from them via a different GSuite account I have--they wouldn't really but she told me to do something like the signing out stuff above.

Anyway, none of that worked, but then I tried dumping all of my filters (100s of them) which I'd put on to weed out wrong addresses etc. and then signed out and signed back in and everything was fine.

So, not surprisingly, things can get glitchy when space is tight and/or heavy processing is going on and something gets stuck, but it can resolve itself with time and careful attention.

Crossed fingers for you.

I did clean up many extensions, and that helped.  I also ran Lenovo's hardware scan which showed no problems.  I erased all the cookies once again.  I am at about 15% capacity of storage, that helped.  I ran antivirus software.  I am doing all that I can in terms of maintenance to see if that will take care of the problem.  So far this morning it is working, but it is an intermittent problem, but a frequent one.  I would say that 50% of the times it has malfunctioned.  Thanks for pointing the way to you both.

I have had not recurring issues with gmail.  Thank you again.
