Google Voice downsides?

My company is forcing me to take a Corporate iPhone and won't let me port my existing number.  I do not want to carry two devices (Hillary - I feel your pain!) so am thinking of porting my personal number to Google Voice for a one time charge of $20 and having it ring on my new corporate iPhone.

There will be an early termination fee on my existing contract, but the company will pay for it.

Is there any downside to this that I am missing?  Will I still be able to text to/from my personal phone number?  Facetime? Any downsides I should be aware of?

Thanks!

I predict you'll just end up carrying two phones.  Any texting done with Google Voice would either be through the Google Voice app or forwarded, which would mean replies would come from your corporate phone number (note: this is ignoring iMessage's behavior, which just complicates things.)

On top of that, when I played with Google Voice a while back I found that the voice quality wasn't great and added latency was a little annoying.  Especially when calling mobile phones or other VoIP phones (which is just about everyone these days).

I don't think the simplicity you're looking for is possible. Two phones is the only simple solution I know of that won't be a pain.

I personally just take the free phones and change my number between jobs. I'm an IT director, so I'm unfortunately going to always be saddled with one.  Fortunately, phone numbers are more and more irrelevant with Facebook, etc.

I had this problem a few years ago. My boss said he would allow me to forward my personal number to my work number but not vice versa. So I did that.

I don't like how when you use google voice, you have to use their apps.

I ported my numbers to voip.ms which is a VOIP wholesale company. I pay about $0.005 per minute, inbound and outbound. It handles texts, though I don't use it for that. I could pay for an all-you-can-eat plan for $8/month, but paying by the minute is cheaper for me.

You can put your company phone away on the weekend (hopefully?). That alone would be worth carrying two devices during the week.

Yes, there should be divisions. Like carrying milchick and fleischich phones.

Has anyone had any experience with a "Dual Sim" phone? I know they are typically sold outside of the States but seems like it may be something to look into.
