Have you fixed your dryer?

Maytag Centennial dryer...disconnected/reconnected andnow it doesn't heat.

Checked obvious stuff: gas valve, breaker, vents, etc.

Popped plug off front door and I have no red glow...so no heat. Looked up tutorials which say repair is easy....and get lost at step 1: check for continuity using multi-meter.

Any tips? Am i better off just sucking it up and calling appliance repair?

I just did this last week. If you are not comfortable with a multimeter you should call someone. The most common item to fail is the igniter, which you can check with a meter, but it is a fragile part. In my case it was the gas valve, which I also metered out. Remember, unplug first.

If it's an electronic dryer, putit in service mode (Google for the service manual for the model) and it will perform the diagnostics for you. Then you'll know what your up against.

Mr President,

Before doing anything else you may want to try and replace the thermal fuse, which is a cheap part (like Starbucks latte cheap) and fairly easy to replace. I wouldn't even test for electrical continuity, just unplug the dryer and put in a new fuse.

I fixed our dryer. I watched several you tube videos until I figured out what was wrong. It was the door sensor. I ordered the part and replaced it. I think my husband owes me for the money I saved on a service call!

Also, repairclinic.com.

Have you spoken to the contractor yet? Seems, from your description, that his work caused the problem

If you need to call a repair service, I highly recommend Larry of Astre Appliance Tech. (908) 272-7744 or (908) 273-4166

I've been using and recommending him for over 20 years and have yet to have or hear of a bad experience. He just came out the other night and saved me having to move fridge/freezer food after we had an electrical fire caused by a faulty part. (Fortunately, only the part had to be replaced and the fridge is now working fine again. And, yes, we called the fire department for the fire first. But then we called Larry for the repair.)

He works on American brand appliances - refrigerators, washers, dryers, ovens, dishwashers, small A/C units, etc.

I had great luck with this website:

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/repair-help/dryer-repair-help.html#gas

Good for diagnosis and ordering the right part number. In my case it was the value coil which fortunately on my model was easy to replace. Managed to fix it for a $15 part.

Youtube can also be helpful at times.

X2 with mrincredible. I fixed it in 10 minutes with a $15 part from Sears and a YouTube tutorial

With a sick wife and carrying around an infant all day, decided to just call Astre Appliance - thanks for the suggestion. Very nice guy and he diagnosed/repaired very quickly. But wish I had done myself (now that I know what the issue was haha). He replaced the high limit cut-off kit. He suspicion is that there is a blockage with the exhaust, causing dryer to overheat -- which is odd because contractor just installed new hose/fitting for the wall and after checking exhaust outside -- it's not blocked.

Don't be too hard on yourself. You could easily have spent a bunch replacing parts before you got to that, especially if there is a lot distracting you.
