How do I tell what is the latest "processor" version, as I'm assuming that means faster and more powerful...

The numbers just seem to make me glaze over. Any advice would be welcomed.

Got the spouse this 2 in 1 Dell and she's loving it:

Dell Inspiron 13 7000 Series 13-Inch Laptop (Intel Core i7-6500U Processor, 8GB RAM, 500GB 8GB Solid State Hybrid Drive, Windows 10)

It's been a year.

What do I look for to be sure I'm getting the "latest" processor, if I wanted a very similar machine????

Many Thanks,

Ron Carter

Here is more information than you want. The column headers are clickable so you can sort by the various different fields.

CPU Benchmarks

The 6500U means, that it is a 6th Gen Intel Core processor. Intel just released Gen 8, however there were only minor steps from Gen 6 to 7 and then to 8. That machine will be fine for a while.

If you want the latest, then get an 8th Gen Core i5 or i7. Depending on how you use it, either is fine. If it's used for office work, e-mail and browsing the web they will all do just fine.

If you want to use it for gaming, then you want to look for something with an AMD or NVidia dedicated graphics processor.

If you think you might want to get into Windows Mixed reality, then you want to look at Core i7 and Gen8.

My work laptop is a Gen3 Core i7 and it is plenty fast.

There are other considerations, too. Do you want slim and light with good battery, or is it ok to have a bulkier machine and get better performance with it.

Maybe specify what you want to use it for, rather then being focused on getting the "latest".

Thanks, earlster!

Many Thanks,
