how do you send pm's / personal messages please?

I know there's an answer somewhere, tried to search for it, failed. thanks in advance! 

Click your user name, go to "My Messages", then click on the pencil on the upper right side of the page. The box for sending a private message will open.  

I recently added this info to the FAQ page:

All of your old messages should be there as well, we have a few more tweaks to do in this area also.

Along these lines, is it possible to get an email notification when you receive a message. I'm not asking for a new feature--just curious whether this feature exists. I don't get many messages so don't think to check (or notice) them. Similarly, I used to get an email notification if a comment was added in a thread I was following. Just curious as to whether that's a feature that still exists that I don't know how to use.

Email notification will be added in the near future

On the old forum, when you were sending someone a PM, you could start typing the recipient's name and you'd get a drop-down list of user names to choose from... I hope that can be added back in the near future as well.
