How long will it take to tile my bathroom?

I have a professional arriving next week to begin tiling our bathroom.

Pretty simple design, 4x4 field tiles and 2x4 floor tiles. 200 sf on walls and 80 sf on floor.

Any guess? Will this be done before Thanksgiving?!

I can't see why not?! I don't even think the tiling will take a week.

If you have all of the materials on hand it shouldn't take more than a few days.

Thanks folks! We demolished the (master) bathroom a year ago!

Every imaginable thing that could delay a project did delay this project. I have become numb to timelines at this point grin

I think that the bulk of the tile will be done quickly but I imagine that the finishing bits like marble surround for the shower and the custom made shower doors/enclosure are going to S*T*R*E*T*C*H this project out once again...

Did the floor guys already see the work area? The only thing I could see holding things up is if they have to do a lot of work to smoothe or level the surfaces they will be tiling. Otherwise, it should only be a few days.

Quick update... the tile work is still being done!  We are on day 22 of work.  I love our contractor's work and I realize that it is a fairly complex design especially since the hand cut tiles are not square and are a real pain to layout. The design was far more challenging than I anticipated; herringbone pattern on the floor, mosaic borders, centering tiles on window etc.  I am over-the-moon happy with it so far though!  Want a peak?  (Fixtures include a 30's style console sink, polished nickel medicine cabinets and a shower enclosure with framed glass panels with polished nickel surrounds.)

I adore the color and variation in the wall tile. Where did you find it? Most of all I like the porthole.

Love the herringbone floor pattern.  Looking very nice!

I was just thinking I wish someone would start a reno blog so I could follow along enviously! Looks lovely.

Colors are fantastic -- classic yet up to date!

The detail of design and execution set this bathroom apart for sure

On a technical note -- more than happy to see one of the few showers with correct and up to date water proofing!   Go Ditra!  (anything else will fail way prematurely)

Thanks folks!

The porthole window is new but it is what was in the room originally. (We removed a nasty 1980s round-top replacement window put in by previous owners.)

The tile is Martinique by FireClay.

The tile details in this bathroom are based on another bathroom down the hall that still has it's original 1929 tile intact.

It absolutely feels like a "water" room.

I can't wait for the glamorous, sparkly bits to be installed. Not one stick of wood cabinetry is in the room. All metal, mirror, tiles, special waterproof plaster and porcelain fixtures.  Also, I am installing duplex outlets with USB ports for phone charging grin Funny modern luxuries!

I cannot wait to see the finished product! But where will you store cosmetics and other stuff? As much as I love the look of a bath without a huge vanity, my two drawers full of makeup and other products and tools "look" much better when they are not seen—stored in the accessible drawers of my vanity.

@shh, We have a 6' tall mirrored medicine cabinet in the room in addition to the medicine cabinet over the sink.  (We got a deal on the 6' version... they discontinued it and it was cheaper than the little one.) We also have easy access to a linen closet directly across the hall for storing large items like blow dryers and bulk toilet paper.  I also plan on purchasing two pieces of furniture for either side of the console sink. They look like rolling seats with padded seat cushions but the tops come off to reveal a deep storage space. I could upholster them in terry cloth. Here is an example  http://www.ballarddesigns.com/hamper-stool/10181

I have one other trick "up my sleeve" for storage/seating inside the shower.  (I hate seeing icky shampoo bottles on a bench in an otherwise lovely space!) I will wait and make the big reveal a bit later ;-)

Love how the project is coming together! That tile is stunning.

how's the bathroom? I've been thinking about it. Would love to see updated pics!!!

ARGH!!! Just now I am becoming a wee bit irritated...

It was supposed to be completed this week but the plaster guy just left in a "huff" because the room was too warm and his plaster dried too quickly. (Everyone on this job has been a bit of an "artiste".)

The plaster is a very unusual type and the plasterers are learning how to use it as they go. The tile looks fantastic.  It took FOREVER but Jerry is a perfectionist.  The shower door goes in tomorrow, etc. etc.  I am getting bargain prices from the tradespeople in exchange for the "gift" of time.

I should have pictures of the finished product in about 10 days, but you never know. (Fingers crossed!)

I wouldn't mind a progress pic! cheese

grin I am still working on getting the lighting and window covering right. Also, I am missing a (possibly persimmon red) accessory for the shower that I keep meaning to order. grin

I will try and snap a few after the house cleaners come tomorrow. It is a tough space to photograph with a cell phone... I need a wider angle lens.

@kmk, who is doing the work? We unexpectedly will need to redo a powder room after a leak and would love to have someone who knows how to do tile do it.

Our guy was really amazing but he usually has a LONG wait list and he is such a perfectionist that the work can take a while. grin

Worth a try. Our job is small. So that could be an incentive? And we will be 'flexible' oh oh
