Irony

Having to impose a "time out" in the thread started to talk about giving the politics threads a "time out".

You're no fun any more, Mr. Ross.

basically - I wanted the link to be at the top of the thread.  When people added comments - then it wasn't as accessible.

does this “time out” have anything to do with advertising revenue?

Perhaps political commentary could be permanently accessed on say, Page8, rather than on most recent? That way, only those enjoying political commentary would be specifically looking for such a thread.

But, then, that page might be without advertisements. Hence, my question above.

It has zero to do with advertising revenue.  It's mainly to do with hyper posting on certain threads - that I have found and heard really irk a lot of the regulars.  So a timeout every now and then into it's own subforum, helps the other categories get back on track.

 The "regulars" are being weenies.

Jamie, have there been conclusions drawn from the time-out?

Back to the rosegarden!

One thing - people rarely go to page 2.

As for separating politics - it's not bad.  Might do it again on Friday.  I would like to try and find a happy medium - maybe put politics in separate column - but then I need to figure out how it would work on mobile.

maybe just put the Russia stuff in its own column.  Or on its own site.

As a people, I, too, infrequently go to page 2.

I will, instead, select a category to find something of specific interest to me —Tech, home improvement, virtual, gardening, pets, etc.

Perhaps isolating topics into separate specific categories encourages a “battlefield” arena. Searching for political, religious, education, etc, posts would necessitate visits to page 2, etc.

My suggestion is, if the political discussions do get shunted into a secluded sub-forum, have a no-whining rule. "Regulars" who repeatedly venture into such threads to do little but bully the OP can get their own cool down periods.

One reason those threads are as long as they are is they are inhabited by people who run up the post counts doing little more than badgering and insulting the OP's for wasting their time. They could just, you know, not open the threads.

Maybe have a F-to-F.   Things can be settled there.

Jamie, not sure about others, but I tend not to check 2nd or 3rd page unless I'm checking a specific thread - those pages aren't as dynamic/chatty as page 1 which usually has the threads I'm currently participating in.

VC isn't as active as in previous years, in the lighthearted or speculative topics we used to have. Many of those posters have moved away or (I gather) post 'elsewhere'.

I really missed the MOL reading of Declaration this July 4th.

Soapbox threads are fun. Challenging the OP is fine. It's only a Message Board for goodness sake.

As a person probably guilty of this, i feel like any adult who posts some combination of nonsensical, inaccurate, hyperbolic trash deserves what they get (within the parameters of our moderator’s discretion of course)
