Large holiday wreath with bows, decorations etc?

We are looking to hang a LARGE wreath on the house and the ones at Home Depot are just plain. Where can we get all the outdoor wreath decorations to jazz it up? Would a florist do this? Thanks in advance

take a look at the Great Swamp Greenhouses.  They have some beautiful wreaths and also sell all of the stuff for decorating a plain one.

Do you someone at the Maplewood Garden Club?  The members there are likely to be very knowledgeable when it comes to decorating wreaths and finding the materials necessary to make your plain wreath more to your taste.

Saw someone at Metropolitan Plant (WO) buying decorations there to be added to a wreath.

The Mill on Valley has some gorgeous ones, but they ain't cheap...

My Dad built one when we were kids. He used 1X1" lumber to build a hexagonal frame, then attached plastic greenery to it using a staple gun. Next, he added outdoor lights and a huge red plastic bow. It was maybe 6' across, and he hung it every year on the big gable on the front of my parents' ranch house, plugging the lights into an outlet inside the porch light. From the street, it was gorgeous. But I realize not everyone can pull that off. Just waxing nostalgic.

Just take your clippers and cut some juniper and/or cedar and/or white pine and/or boxwood and/or cryptomeria and add it to the plain wreath.  If you don't have those shrubs, one of your friends probably does grin  Pine cones are a nice touch too.  If you have some, wrap coated green wire around them and you can attach to wreath also.

And for big gold and green 'baubles' you can prob get that at Target or Home Depot.  Also, it's easy to make huge bows- get some fat ribbon with wire edging (Target prob has some).  Go to youtube and google, how to make a wreath bow- they are very easy.  You'll need that wire again grin

We got a lighted BIG wreath at CostCo years ago and I put my own

red bow and red bells on it. We've hung it for years on our garage window.

Check out Michael's on Rt. 10. Its a great craft store and they had beautiful ribbon. They have lots of bits and pieces to add to a wreath and there are great sales. Be warned that if you are a crafter or an artist, you will walk out with a great deal more than you planned on purchasing!

We ended up doing a Home depot wreath, buying bows and other stuff for it at Great Swamp and assembling ourselves. I think it looks nice and now we dont need to store a big wreath but will be able to re-use the add-on decorations for future years. Thanks, everyone!

Maplewoody, that looks beautiful! And I'm glad you came up with a solution you like, coughcoughcough.
