I know that you will move this to the politics section, but I can't get myself to hide it there. Source: The Hill, Aug 25, 2019:
President Trump has floated dropping nuclear bombs into hurricanes to stop them from hitting the United States in meetings with Homeland Security and national security officials, Axios reported Sunday.According to sources who have heard the president's private remarks and have been briefed on a National Security Council (NSC) memorandum, the suggestions were made during briefings on hurricanes."I got it. I got it. Why don't we nuke them?" Trump said at one such White House briefing, a source who was there told Axios."They start forming off the coast of Africa, as they're moving across the Atlantic, we drop a bomb inside the eye of the hurricane and it disrupts it. Why can't we do that?" the source added, paraphrasing the president's remarks. The source told Axios that the briefer responded with something to the effect of "Sir, we'll look into that."A 2017 NSC memo relayed to Axios reportedly describes a second conversation in which Trump asked whether the administration should bomb hurricanes to stop them from hitting the homeland.A source briefed on the NSC memo noted that it does not contain the word "nuclear."The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Axios's report. A senior administration official told Axios, "We don't comment on private discussions that the president may or may not have had with his national security team."Another senior administration official told Axios, "His goal - to keep a catastrophic hurricane from hitting the mainland - is not bad. His objective is not bad."The idea of using nuclear weapons to disrupt hurricanes has been floated before.A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration fact sheet about tropic cyclones address the concept and points out that it would be unlikely to work and most likely cause more harm than good."Apart from the fact that this might not even alter the storm, this approach neglects the problem that the released radioactive fallout would fairly quickly move with the tradewinds to affect land areas and cause devastating environmental problems," the sheet reads."Needless to say, this is not a good idea."
this is why I want to give every Trump voter a dope slap.
I say we give Trump the chance of being the savior he so wants to be.
He is such a pinhead.
I'm waiting for the article: "Research on this is limited, so there is not a scientific consensus that a nuclear weapon wouldn't be useful and safe if used on a hurricane."

just because the MSN is telling you it's a stupid idea doesn't mean anything. It's manufactured consent to disparage out of the box thinking.
Believe it or not, we have done some research on this, at least within the context of numerical models. To no one's surprise, a nuclear weapon would do nothing. More here: https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/C5c.html. He's far from the first person to propose this, but not many have been the President. The Eisenhower admin did toy with the idea though.
I propose we drop Trump into the middle of a hurricane in order to disrupt it. Some, no undoubtedly, will respond that this is unlikely to work, but that's only true if you assume the goal is to disrupt hurricanes.
Summation quote from the G7 meeting:
Huh?? After refusing to attend the discussions, suggesting a hackneyed science fiction plot as a way to manage extreme weather, and desperately trying to ramp up manufacturing in unsustainable ways, I’m not sure how he reckons we’ll believe him.
It’s all so tiresome. When will we wake up?
Tom Cotton is writing an OpEd for the NYT explaining that George Washington already proposed this in 1791, so it's actually a really constitutional and bright idea.
We have thousands of nuclear warheads in storage --- doing nothin' of value to anyone.
We get only about 10 hurricanes a year. One nuke will finish off any hurricane: FAST !
We can also sell hurricane disposal services to places like Brazil, Japan, Holland, DENMARK, South Africa-- places that got money but no nukes.
Its a win-win strategy. We get to use the nukes and Rayethon gets to sell more to the Pentagon.

Just imagine the summertime combo here of floods, bushfires, cyclones AND nuked cyclones
"Literally, the plot of 'Sharknado'."
This comment is gold: "Let’s be honest, “nuke the hurricane” came way later in his presidency than we all thought it would" but so many of them would be hilarious, if it weren't for the fact that the President of the United States actually suggested it. Yes, it was an idea floated by scientists years ago and quickly dismissed.
