Local boot camps?

Thinking of jump starting my spring fitness regimen with a local boot camp. Do you have one you'd recommend?

It's not boot camp, but Body By Struggle on Springfield Ave has a similar flavor. It's a fantastic workout. I've gotten stronger and faster (especially core strength) from going there. He does a free first class.

I think the closest is Fort Jackson in South Carolina.

I was thinking more of an out in the park thing?

There website doesn't have an address

I take a few Boot camp classes at Motion. Not sure of your timing needs but I work my butt off and have gotten super strong. When weather permits we do the class outside or even in the reservation. (I have found several benefits to belonging there, not only can i take challenging boot camp classes, I can also do yoga, spin, use the equipment and if I miss one day chances are there are an assortment of classes the next.) it's very reasonable too. Happy to share details of specific classes with you and get you a trial.

In the mud and the cold? Well, that does give it a real Boot Camp vibe, I'll say that much.

I just saw someone post this about an hour ago on the FB soma business friends group: https://www.facebook.com/ExerciseOutside

Unfortunately boot camps scare the bejeezus out of me so I can't offer any reviews.

Thanks, all.

@shh, i am not a Motion fan. I do love crossfit so I thought a boot camp would be an interesting experiement. Of course, just walking or running outside would also work...does anyone know someone who can teach me how to run (not kidding!)

Anyone know if Carlos Sanchez still runs Maplewood Boot Camp? The website seems to be down and the Facebook page was last updated in 2013. I liked his camps but had to drop out due to changing school and work schedules.

Ok, to each her own, of course. I have been happiest (and most challenged) there for several years.

I did boot camp with Carlos. It was great and challenging. But I transitioned to usi g a trainer and doing a boot camp style class at the JCC. Love them! Really not easy though.

Hi, thanks @afa, I run the Backyard Boot Camp you mentioned! We're starting up the week of April 13 (weather gods please take note) and would love to have you join. I'll PM you my details and we can talk more and see if it sounds like a good fit.

Thanks! @debpod, does the JCC have bootcamp-like classes? Thinking of rejoining and that (plus spin) would be an incentive.

I work out with a trainer at the JCC, and he will be doing a 10 week boot camp style class beginning in April, after Passover. As it is, my training sessions with him are high intensity - boot camp style. Not sure if that's the norm, but I've been with him for 3 years now and he knows he can push me.

I have heard only great things about Allison and am going to call her myself about this. Eventually...

@deborahg yes, at least they did last year when I stopped classes (was pregnant). I love their classes. Check out the schedule on time for times.
@michr can I ask which trainer you work with? Are you talking about the next weight loss challenge starting soon?

Second for Body by Struggle. Best workout I have ever had. And he is an awesome guy. He is located in Maplewood, across from the 7-11 at 1729 Springfield Ave.

@debpod - I work with Jose. Not the weight loss challenge, he is doing a beach body boot camp 10 week class. I think there are three days/times to choose from. Registration opens tomorrow. I know for sure it's Tuesdays at 9:30 and then 8:00pm, Thursday @ 4:30 and I think Friday at 8:15am. Maybe there is a Wednesday class too, don't remember.

He is amazing, I just want to say that since working with him, I've lost and kept off 70lbs.

@michr Congrats! That's great oh oh I work with Jimmy and lost ~50 with him after my first baby was born. I'm just getting back on track with him this week. That's awesome about the new boot camp. Unfortunately I can't ever do these things unless they're at 6am or after 8pm! I just need a few solid weeks with him to work back up to TRX class.

I would do a boot camp at 6.

@j r if Carlos still does camps in the park, I think they're at 6am. The series I did was def at 6am about 3 yrs ago. he's on my linked in. I'll ask if he still does them

Ditto on the a.m. class...I'd love that option.

OK, Carlos, let's hear from you!

I know @istudymemory and can say 'Amen' to Body By Struggle. I ran into istudy a while back and looks fantastic! I have been meaning to join up because I need to drop 40 pounds.

It's 1729 Springfield Ave. in Maplewood

+100 for Body by Struggle

Cross fit Maplewood may be worth a try, they work pretty hard there.
