Lollipop upgrade for phone--hold off?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. Verizon has been recommending the Lollipop upgrade for a while, and now they're REALLY pushing it with frequent (and annoying) popups on my phone. The problem is that I've read that there are various problems associated with Lollipop, including shortened battery life. Right now, the battery life on my phone is excellent, and I don't want to mess with it. Has anyone had any positive or negative experiences with the Lollipop upgrade?

I had started another thread about this topic. I have a Samsung Note3 and recently ran the 5.0 Lollipop update. I've noticed a slight decrease in battery life. But my main annoyance was that things don't look the same...The boxes next to the emails aren't there anymore (you can force them up by using the 'select' option, but that's an extra step - before you could easily delete several at a time. "Mark unread" is now in a different place - took a while to find it. Colors on the displays aren't as vivid, and they've changed the appearance of a number of their screens. If I'd known what the changes entailed, I'd have ignored the update.  My husband has an LG phone and also had major issues with the recent upgrade - he is having more significant battery issues than I am.

I had a MAJOR decrease in battery life. Needed to back up and do a factory reset. A big pain. The reset seems to have resolved the issue but I do not see any gain for my pain with the upgrade.

Sorry to hear. That's exactly the kind of thing I'm afraid of-- and exactly what I've heard from other sources. Any use going to the Verizon store and seeing if anyone there can help resolve your issues?

Meanwhile, I'm constantly getting those popups telling me to upgrade to Lollipop. I've tried multiple ways of stopping those popups, but to no avail. Apparently they can't be stopped, except by accepting the upgrade, which I don't want to do.

Even Verizon said a factory reset is the only thing to do if the battery issue(which seems oretty common) occurs.

I upgraded with no problems on a nexus 5. look on line for reviews but to me it is a must.  Plus they are already at .02 release

I have looked online (re Galaxy S5) and seen almost no positive comments. I've also communicated directly with two people, both of whom said that if they had to do it again, they wouldn't. Maybe the problems are more severe with phones than with tablets.

Most people who post online about Lollipop are having a problem with it, rather than saying how great it is, which is usually the case.  I did a factory reset with my LG which was tiring but worked pretty well, except apparently I hear it it would have been cleaner not to save and re-download my apps  but rather restart them afresh from the app store.  I don't have any major problems, except with Verizon my automatic push notifications for email and g-chat seem to be erratic, and are often not there in wireless mode.

Did 5.1 help you or your husband re the issues you mention?

Haven't run 5.1 yet - I checked the phone and the latest update I've run (about 2 weeks ago) was 5.0. I'll ask my husband to verify the version he's running when he (and his phone) are around. He's a golfer, so not around on nice mornings!

I upgraded from S4 to S6 with 5.0.2 about two weeks ago. Still getting used to the changes but so far I'm liking it.

I have 5.1 on my Nexus 5 and my daughter has it on her Nexus 7. Nexus 5 upgrade went super smooth, the Nexus 7 was a bit slow for a while, until we cleared the cache.

Android is slow enough with updates, which usually also include security fixes. I would bite the bullet, but be ready to clear our the cache, or do a full reset if it turns out to be slow. Not the end of the world.

Thanks. My main concern is decreased battery life, which right now is excellent.

When you say a "full reset," what does that actually entail? (No techie here!)

I don't hava a Galaxy 5, but usually there is a 'Reset/Backup' option in settings. Select factory reset there.

The other option is to power down the phone, then hold the volume up and power buttons to start the phone until you get a 'recovery' menu. There you can choose to clear the cache, or factory reset.

After a factory reset you will have to re-setup your phone as if it were new.

Thanks. Starting from scratch would be such a pain, having gotten everything to run so nicely now.

I don't have a problem with the battery. I also don't keep my mobile (DATA) on 24/7.
