Looking to lease a car

A GMC, but not sure which one.  Any recs on which dealership to go to would be great.

Thx.

Have you leased before?  I leased once, but found the worry (over potential scratches, going over miles, etc), plus the financial total ending up worse than buying outright would have been, was not a good fit for me.

No, would be my first time.  Have always owned, but want to explore the leasing option.  May not be a good option for the reasons you mentioned.

One secret I found about dealerships when I purchased a car a couple of years ago (not GMC):

NYC caps the extra dealership fees at $75.

NJ dealerships were charging between $350-$600 in dealership fees.

The dealerships in Staten Island seem more desperate to unload their cars due to less space available on their lots. I found this out by accident since I got a first estimate after a test drive on Rt. 22 in NJ -- but they didn't have the options I wanted. So, I found the car I wanted at a Staten Island dealership, and with all their incentives and the lower dealership fees, ended up saving a couple thousand dollars, and got the car I wanted. They also sent me the total cost breakdown via email, which some NJ dealerships wouldn't do.

The downside: The Staten Island dealership I went to stored their cars off-site since they didn't have much room on their lot. So, even though I called ahead and made an appointment, they didn't have the car arrive from their storage area until nearly an hour after our appointment time.

interesting!  Didn't know that - tx!

leasing is a way to get more car for same money per month if you financed and purchased

But at the end of the lease you walk away with nothing... and another round of car payments

Long term buying is less expensive.

Leasing would be a tax advantage if you had a small business.

thank you Pete & former!

I've leased several times.  Keep an eye on the money factor (interest rate) and the residual value of the car.  Last time I wasn't interested in battling it out, so I leased via Costco.  The process was simple and straight forward.  Maybe not best possible deal, but than again I didn't sit at the dealership for hours.

RCH

Equally important is the number of miles you will drive. If that is not factored into the deal and you exceed allotted miles, you pay an agreed upon amount per mile at the end of the lease.

It can be a substantial amount.

What about a lease appeals to you?

formerly:  I actually don't know much about leasing but hear about it alot.  Need a new car and am looking at different options.  I've always owned and from all the feedback it sounds like it's still a good fit for me.

I had a good experience working with a guy named Michael Jeffries here:

https://viplease.com ; michael@viplease.com

Just know what make, model, & trim you're looking for and let him go find the car for you. I tried him twice; the first time, I worked with him before test driving and then went to a local dealer to drive the car I was interested in; we were so impressed with the dealer, and the corporate deal they gave us (based on my wife's office having a discount plan) was almost identical to Michael's price, so we used the dealer, since they'd been so helpful. The second time, we just used Michael and were very satisfied.
