Maker Madness Junk Collection -- Successful Event!

If you have any electronics, computers and accessories, small electric appliances, power tools, battery-operated toys, etc. that you don't want, please donate them to the Maker Madness event.  This equipment will be used at the Teardown Station, where we let kids take them apart to learn what’s inside.  The kids love it.

We are collecting donations this week, through Friday.  Please PM me with contact info and we will pickup your donation at your convenience.

Please note we cannot accept TVs or monitors, microwaves, or any gasoline-powered devices.

The event is this Saturday, April 28, 10 AM – 4 PM, at Columbia High School.

Makers Madness is a free, hands-on educational event for students and their families that offers an interactive, museum-like experience.  This includes both demonstration (teaching) and experimentation (creation and play). This all-day event targets school-age children, especially those who do not have broad access to technology in their homes, or all who want to try their hands at designing, creating and building projects under the tutelage of experts from the school district and community.

Held at Columbia High School, Maker Madness offers activity stations such as animation, 3-D printing, electronics demolition, kinetic sculpture, catapults, coding, Popsicle stick bridges, pop-up books, origami, sewing and more! Hosted by the Achieve Foundation since 2015, the event is planned and carried out by more than 90 volunteers. Event expenses are covered by sponsors. Over 1,400 students and adults participate every year.

Sure.  I sent you a private message with my contact info.

Yes, a paper shredder would be great.  A lot of the electronics items don't have any moving parts, but this will have gears and a motor!

Tom,

I have a vacuum cleaner (moving parts?) and probably other stuff, which I could leave on my Maplewood porch for pick up on Friday. Would you be interested?  Please PM me if so, and I will reply with my address.

Am I too late? I have the broken-motor part of a blender, and an old cell phone.

Yes, we set up late this afternoon.  If you wish to bring the equipment to the event at Columbia High School, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM tomorrow (Saturday), we would put it to use.

Thanks for thinking of us.

Sorry about that. Didn’t see this in time but might try to drop them by. Sounds great—have fun!

Thanks to everyone who donated equipment for the Teardown Station at the Makers Madness event on Saturday.  The entire event was great success and heavily attended.  We estimate that we had at least 200 kids visit our station.

The two pictures here show the contrast between the first few hours, when children and parents worked in a (fairly) orderly manner at the tables, and the end of the afternoon, when some of the stuff and a few of the participants found their way to the floor.

Does this mean my DVD player has gone to heaven?
