Master of None on Netflix

Anyone else watching? Every episode is like a short film - laugh out loud funny, poignant, plus it's great to see Aziz Ansari work so well as a lead character. If anything, make it a point to watch episode 2 ("Parents") and take note that those are his actual folks (who are not actors). Painfully sweet.

His (actual) mother was so deadpanned that it cracked me up.

I'm digging the series. Even a few years ago I never imagined that a series like this would be on a mainstream distribution platform like Netflix.  My guess though is that it's really not for the majority of the MOL crowd.

In what way? I'm thinking about checking it out.

Enjoyed it, though it's way more mainstream than Last Man on Earth.

Please check it out. I would love to know what you think....and why I wrote what I wrote.

I am half way through season 1 episode I and it is breathtakingly and refreshingly truthful and thoroughly enjoyable. These are the Conversations I have with my own children and older grandkids. Wow!!!

I've watched six episodes and I can't figure out why you say it's not for the majority of the MOL crowd. Is it because apparently we're all so old?

As far as age goes, I can say that my parents loved it (then again, that's basically younger me/us on screen). I finished the series this morning and was knocked out by how it eloquently navigated some very tricky emotions. It's such a well-crafted show - every moment counts. Every episode gives voice to a lot of unspoken truths and it's easy to see why it's gotten incredibly positive reviews.

Highly recommended, the ten episodes will fly by.

Does it get better after first episode?

I thought it was hilarious throughout, but if it helps, I'd say the oh-god-don't-let-the-kids-overhear feeling of the opening scene isn't really replicated again.

I'm enjoying it very much. His parents are great.

Great series! My new favorite. So, so funny!

I don't want it to end.

It's enjoyable and funny.   It's a bit middle-age centric. Like a more humorous Girls, for a group of multi-cultural friends.   But it's not edgy in any way. I think Maplewood might actually be  the target audience.

I've enjoyed the show, and his standup at Madison Square Garden (also on Netflix) is hilarious.  That said, too much Aziz, particularly in the two episodes focused on him and his girlfriend, can be annoying.  I prefer the episodes with his parents and his friends.

Didn't even know about this show. Put it in my queue. Thanks!

I'm enjoying but feel it's a bit uneven. Love all the parents, and Ravi Patel, and Aziz up to a point. But yes, I like it better when it doesn't tunnel in on him.

Just watched Indians on TV tonight.  Brilliant!

I couldn't get into it, which surprised me.

I like it, mostly. It's a Louie ripoff, and Aziz gets a bit annoying after a while, but it's a smart show with a lot of depth and attention to detail. Very sharp.

I can't get past the horrible acting. The conversations feel forced and unnatural.

I don't think it's horrible acting so much as a deliberate tonal choice. "Forced and unnatural" is the effect they're going for.

I disagree. It's just bad acting and it's especially clear when his friends are sitting around a table talking. Those scenes are cringe worthy.

I thought I liked Aziz enough to deal with the tone and his voice and what not, but he is no Louie for me.  I will take crochety, ascerbic, meandering Louis CK anyday.

OK - I didn't love the first episode or two, but now I'm binge watching it. I really love it.
