Morning Glory Seedlings

Does anyone want about 15 Morning Glory seedlings? I started way too many plants and have no more space for them.  They are about 3-4 inches tall.

As the keeper of a lovely garden, do not under any circumstances introduce morning glories. It is the weed from hell...

We had a rule but some of our residents planted them on their terraces and now almost every azalea in the place and all the iris have to compete with what I call "Bind Weed" it climbs and pulls down and binds.  Do Not Go There.  Almost impossible to eliminate.  Come See on May 21, we'll be open and the monster will be climbing.

Best Regards,

Ron Carter

The Secret Garden @ 377

We are also open May 7 but not so many morning glories!  $7 a person or a Garden Conservancy Ticket.

Ron - thank you!  I did not know that about Morning Glory...yikes! Now I do not feel so bad about throwing them out.  I also planted some Moon Flowers near an old fence.  Are they also unruly? I look forward to seeing your garden on the 7th!

Moon Flowers have a heavenly evening fragrance when they open at dusk!

Would you like free day lily tubers? I'm digging them out as my deer just chomp them to bits. Can't promise if they are the yellow or the orange.

When we lived in Jersey City a restaurant near us grew Moon Flowers in containers and I would always want to sit close to the flowers.  I would love some Lily tubers!  We have some overgrown Junipers obscuring our sidewalk that I am going to hire a landscaper to remove (beyond my DIY abilities) and the lilies would be perfect in that sunny spot.

PM me and I'll give you my address! I gave cat litter buckets of them to my pal bigben who was potting them for the plant sale and had some waiting for pick up from her Swap Meet post. So you are quite welcome to take as many as you like!

I grow morning glories every year and do not have a big problem with volunteers in subsequent years. If you are a reasonably diligent weeder, I think you can defeat it!

I would love morning glories My seeds didn't sprout this year  I have them on containers on my deck

I'm going to respectively disagree on not planting MG's. Yes, bindweed - wild morning glory - is a plant from hell that takes somewhere from 7 to 20 years to eradicate. The leaves are thin spades and the flowers are small and white sometimes tinged with pink. Blue morning glories - I have managed to keep in check in my home garden. I just pick the seedlings when they are in a place they shouldn't be. But I can see if you had a lot - it would be a handful. However, since it's annual, if you wipe out this year's, there will be almost none next year. I love moonflowers - which don't self seed with nearly as much abandon and cardinal flower as well.

If there are any seedlings left, I'd be happy to take them off your hands, Sweetsnuggles.

I love irises. Bearded or Siberian?

Bearded? They look like this (from a past year):

Wow I'm crazy about bearded iris. Every fall I get ready to order and every one I want is sold out. When I moved here years ago there was on wonderful large patch of them. I added to them and they did so well for many years. Sadly after Sandy my trees above crashed down as well as my chimney and through all of the masonry, cement and clean up there are only a few that survived.

I will pull up some more and let you know when you can get them. I have a lot I need to thin.

marylago, I love irises too if you have any more to share.
