It's a little early for popcorn (7:35 ante meridian) but we did go see the Greta Gerwig "Little Women" last night. And are too much cinema popcorn!

Also, will there be local celebrations for Lunar New Year, next weekend? It’s the year of the Rat. (I can’t remember if Metal or Earth Rat; what do I know? I’m just a fire monkey.
A good friend in Philadelphia, an ethnic Han from Singapore, annually hosts a big New Year’s party, which we always look forward to. (It’ll be on Feb. 2, though; I don’t know why she chose that weekend instead.) Last year, for the Year of the Pig, she had an Italian Market butcher roast a whole pig.
I’m trying not to think about what the menu’s centerpiece will be this year.

Popcorn! Hate it and love it!
When is Pop Amaranth Day?
Dave, check with your friend: I think it’s the year of the Earthy Rat.
The New Year party period goes for a week to ten days, so a later day is fine. Below is probably why the date was chosen:
This is the birthday of the highest god, the Jade Emperor (玉皇大帝—yù huáng dà dì). In Daoism, he is the sovereign of the universe and is the ultimate representation of “sky.”

Earthy Rat? Is that like a Groundhog?
Or maybe muskrat. I’ve eaten that before.

Thread drift: Saw Little Women this afternoon. Marvelous film. (My wife said it was way better than the book.)

Thanks - we’ll see that next
Oh dear - I’ve told you all a fib! It’s not the Earthy Rat, it’s the year of the White Metal Rat!!!

(platinum? Enamel? Magnesium/Calcium? Stainless steel like the books??)
Mr Incredible, I’ve been told 19 January is National Popcorn Day. (Yum!)
We did our bit, gathered a family party and enjoyed a fun family matinee with $3 (very large) box of not-too-greasy popcorn. Do you observe the same date in SOMA?
