Nerd Alert: Avengers Endgame Trailer (Spoilers from "Infinity War"

Okay, just as I'm thinking "Great Scott, this is getting even more morose" we're treated to a burst of energy and fun toward the end of the trailer. Everyone is moping around ... except one hero who seems to have something to share.

I'm guessing Captain Marvel is going to save Tony's hash. If I remember everyone else is on Earth? It would be a good way to introduce the character.

There's also a ship with an indeterminate number of Asgardians floating around out there somewhere, and assuming Loki is actually dead is never a smart play. (I would like to see Loki meet up with Ant-Man anyway.) So it's possible we're in for a Tony/Loki reunion.

Amazing how well Disney manages this property vs. Lucasfilms.

That said, Solo was waaaaayyyyy better than people made it out to be. Hat tip, Opie.

Spoiler alert: nobody is ever truly dead in comic books.

Yeah that's a really good point about the Marvel vs Star Wars franchises. It's interesting because the theme park in Florida is very much banking on a vibrant and active the Star Wars Universe going forward.

I agree about Solo. I enjoyed it. I think it was a big risk taking on filming the backstory of arguably the most popular character in the franchise. Oh wait they did that already with Skywalker. Not Luke. His Dad.

I'm not sure what the record is for the longest time a major character has been dead in the comic books. I think Barry Allen might be a contender. But yeah, at this point when I meet your character dies it just becomes a question of how long before they come back.

Barry Allen has got to be the champion of time to return. I hadn’t read comic books (and sadly still don’t) for many years at that point when that one was pointed out to me. When I got to the last panel I was ready to cheer. DC Universe #0 if you haven’t read it. Just looked it up now.

Like Cage TV series got cancelled. Always loved powerman/iron fist. They lived in the real world. Watched the first season and enjoyed it but didn’t get around to going back. Such a great character. “Christmas!”

The one thing about Solo (spoiler alert!) was the insistence of putting “Han shot first” into high relief. Stop it guys. Enough is enough. George had good, if misguided, intentions. Let it pass quietly.

Agreed!  I loved Solo, particularly after Last Jedi which I hated (why Poe Dameron hasn't been spaced yet is a mystery to me)

Never!  I'm Italian and we know how to bear a righteous grudge.

Poe and Laura Dern’s character encapsulated what a broken organization looks like- subordinates that don’t listen and leaders who refuse to communicate with their subordinates. Everyone should have had a clear view of Admiral Holdo’s (?) plan so they could understand their part in it. Instead, she kept her master plan to herself and Leia.

For Poe, he acted like a petulant, unhinged child and got people killed. He probably should have been spaced, since he seemed determined to just completely go against the command structure at the worst possible time.

Both terrible.

And of course, Holdo’s “sacrifice”. It made no sense in its timing (why not days ago) its universe continuity (soooo why not fire garbage ships into the Death Star?) and even that it happened (droids, computers.... none of those will do. Has to be a human pushing the button). Just a bad movie and a shame.

Right.  One can go on and on but it always comes back to the fact that the movie was just straight up bad.  I can't decide whether Last Jedi was worse than Phantom Menace.  I tend to think Phantom was worse but that may just be because I've spent so much time despising it over the last 20 years.

(ETA: To be clear, my hate of the movie has nothing to do with the inclusion of non white characters, powerful women or any other Russian bot bait.  Its sad that the Troll/Bot Alliance has cast a shadow on legitimate criticism of what was truly a terrible movie)

I felt like a lot of that was people who knew it was a bad movie trying somehow to make it a bigger issue than a bad movie. Same with Ghostbusters. The reboot was just not good. It wouldn’t have been good if it was the original cast.

Meanwhile, Emilia Clarke was so good in Solo I didn’t realize it was Emilia Clarke. Not kidding. I know that is ridiculous. She was great and so was the character. I really hope there is some sort of continuation because while I know where Solo ended up her character was interesting enough that I want to see how where she goes.

They tried too hard in The Last Jedi. There are amazing female characters in sci fi. Ripley, anyone? When you try to describe Sigorney Weaver in that film, her gender is a footnote, and not because she takes on action hero dude duties. Iconic. Galadriel in Lord of the Rings. Arowen! Liv Tyler gets no credit. She was perfect. Powerful, powerful characters. No internet conspiracy Russians against them. Poor Laura Dern.

ETA-phantom menace gets a mulligan because it’s hard to write a story developing a universe with characters so many people already know a lot about. The new Star Wars movies have taken a blank page that would be filled with beloved characters an just not done much good with them. Many missed opportunities....imo.

That said, I still don’t know exactly what was going on with the trade guild or whatever and I really don’t care.

I'm excited to see Endgame but they shouldn't have announced all the 'dead' characters sequels before it came out  lol. Talk about spoiler alerts. I mean I don't think anybody thought Spiderman was gone for good but sheesh

I suppose it's a hazard of having established such a gargantuan cash cow cinematic universe. Investors will want to know Disney's plans for generating another billion dollars from another Black Panther movie and associated merchandise. Unless they're going to totally psych everyone out and tell us that Black Panther 2 is actually Captain America 4.

I wonder if Peter Parker will find some kind of symbiote once he gets resurrected. Especially if it happens on that dead planet where he went poof.

My theory is that time travel thru quantum realm, guessing by the appearance of Ant-man in the trailer, will be involved to reverse the deaths. I'll probably have a new theory once Captain Marvel releases  surprised

How about now?

Got any theories now?

Just saw it. Holy cow! I was riveted for 3 hours and actually cheered and clapped (and I wasn't the only one) several times.

If you haven't seen the movie don't worry I won't spoil it for you. I'll wait a few more weeks before starting to talk about specific plot points.

But I will say there are some very satisfying events for many of the main characters.

Captain America (one of my personal favorites) plays a much bigger role than he did in Infinity War and boy does he get some Big Damn Hero moments.
