Code Yellow HS right now, acc to spokeswoman. Students not allowed to leave building 'til principal releases. More info 2 come.

Yup. Wild wild west.....

Hopefully justice is being served and the admin is SHUTTING. IT. DOWN.

May be a response to a rumor that a kid was bringing a gun to an after school fight, at least according to my kid who is in the lockdown.

One arrested already, apparently.

Don't hold your breath. I've no doubt Liz and the other CHSpowers that be have been doing and will continue to do everything they can, but I fear it's now out of their hands.

I was wondering why my kid isn't home yet. What a mess.

not a great week for Maplewood.

I don't know...I was at the senior class awards night at CHS last night...looked pretty great to me. Sure, there are definitely some serious matters to be dealt with, but that sound isn't the sky falling...its just helicopters or what accounts for probing news coverage these days. Heterogeneity doesn't always come in a neatly wrapped package with a pretty bow.

I guess you haven't read about the 7th grader with the Glock and the list of students he wanted to shootin the middle school yesterday...

Or the robbery on Oakview...

Read everything, Doris...even waited for facts to come in. I acknowledged there are serious matters. Heterogeneous communities aren't always going to come neatly wrapped in pretty paper...but all types of communities have issues...the measure of community is how people deal with them. To walk around solely in fear or to only accentuate the negative isn't how I deal with things...or the way a lot of people deal with things. It's as much a disservice to not acknowledge the good things happening, especially regarding students.

What is a code yellow? Google isn't giving any helpful answers. I found the state website about schools and emergency prepardness, but it had nothing about codes on there.

Hankzona - I appreciate your levelheaded and evenhandedcomments.

Code Yellow is "shelter in place" while they figure out what's going on. No immediate threat, but they want people in classrooms and not hallways etc.

Code Red is active threat (or reasonable suspicion of such) and gets full lockdown, silence and hide if possible while police investigate/search etc.
