Please help a family buy two weighted blankets for their autistic son

Kate isn't local now, but she used to be. She grew up in Maplewood. She and her husband do what they can for their son, but it is hard. They even moved to another town based on the Special Education services offered there. I don't know exactly what items are covered, and what isn't, but I do know that the out of pocket costs add up quickly even with the best of coverage.

Here is Kate's gofundme account, with a very modest goal. Please help if you can, it would be great if she could afford two weighted blankets for Simon, one for home and one for school. On the gofundme page is a link to her blog where a recent post details a hard day Simon had at school, and the extraordinary efforts his teacher went through for two hours to calm him down.

Looks like they reached their goal!

Yes, I was happy to see that. I've known Kate since grade school and even though she no longer lives close we have kept in touch. She loves her son very much and is very vocal in advocating for people with autism, but she is also very straightforward about some of the trials and tribulations she goes through. Not in a whiny way, but in a "this is my reality" way.

I may have a almost new weighted vest that looks like it would fit him well. Please let me know if you think the family would be interested in trying one. I would be happy to send it. (warning, this is assuming I can find it so no guarantee).
You can PM me.

I had never until recently heard of weighted blankets. I'm assuming they help autistic kids. But such blankets have caused deaths in the youngest kids, and there are moves to restrict their use in situations like day-care. People should be aware of the dangers.

They help kids with sensory integration issues, as do the weighted vests. This is an older child so I'm sure that either would be useful.
