PSE&G worry free contract archived

Hello,
Has anyone ever used their worry free contract with PSE&G?

We've had worry free since we moved into Maplewood 2001, last week I called to have someone check out our gas and water heater. The service rep told me it would be a cost of $25.00 if someone was to come out.
I did all the servicing myself, including draining the boiler - took forever all that dark water!

I have a PSE&G worry free contract too and called them today to see if annual maintenance of the boiler was included. Said it wasn't so I asked how much they charge. Said I had to schedule someone to come out free of charge to take a look and determine price. That seemed like a waste of time so instead I've called the plumber I use to schedule the service which they can do this week.

Thanks, calling them back to verify the info I was given.

Hi,
I'm curious... Approx much yr annual contract costs?

If you call them to come out and turn on the heat (as I think they call it) after September 15th (I think that's their cut off date), there is no charge. If you call them afterwards, they do charge $25. I paid $185 to have a plumber turn up my boiler and it died a week later anyway. When the PSEG guy came out, he told me that they will not do a maintenance call, but if you call to have your heat turned on, that is essentially what they do.

He replaced my transformer, did a whole lot of preventative service and told me that I might need a new thermostat, but since the boiler was now working, he couldn't tell.

A few weeks later, the heat died again. They came out and put in a new thermostat (programmable). All of this was covered by the service contract.

When I had the old thermostat put in, we paid about $400. Turns out, it was the wrong type for my boiler.

I'm not sure how much it costs. I pay $8.87 per month for furnace and hot water heater, but I don't think that I pay it for a full 12 months.

This is not the first year I've used it, so I am glad to have it.

"Worry free" means you don't need to worry until you need them to fix something. Then you start worrying. I've had this contract for years and not once was something actually covered. Maybe the contract is designed to only cover obscure parts and services that rarely need fixing.

The service contracts have always worked for us, especially those for appliances.

The boiler is the only thing I've ever covered with a service contract, and after two repairs that would have cost over $1k, I'm sold.

We've had it for years - for washer, dryer, fridge, oven, dishwasher, and furnace. It's been great
for us.

I had it in my old house for the HVAC, hot water heater, stove/oven and refrigerator. I never needed to use it.....

We've also had it on our furnace for decades. It's been great, we've used it a lot and everything has always been covered.

I love the Worry Free contract. Used it for 13 years as half a dozen appliances faded and failed. It was great. Much better than Sears, for example. Easier to get someone to come out, and they're not harrassing you about extended warranties and hitting you with surprise fees.

How fast is PSE&G's service? I have a hot water heating system. If I get up in the morning and notice that the boiler isn't working, would PSE&G be out that day to diagnose the problem, and if it needed just a part, would they most likely fix it that day?

This happened to me on Monday. I do have a service contract with a heating co., and they've always given me good service. Of course, I paid for the part and labor. They even come out on Christmas day one year.

The past two times I called (both within the last month) I had to wait over a day. When I called last time (which was either last year or the year before), it was very cold out and they were there that day. In my (thankfully) limited experience, they have always had the part they needed.

The part that I had to have replaced was the aquastat relay. Would this have been replaced at no cost under the Worry Free contract?

eta - I'm also going to call PSE&G and ask them.

PSE&G told me the part would have been replaced at no cost. Monday's are usually their busiest day, and it would have been replaced by Tuesday at the latest.

It's possible cramer. We've had tons of stuff done even programable thermostats replaced at no cost.

Hi,
Seems like lots of positives here.
Any serious negatives?
Value rec'd for $$$ given?
If you were starting over what would you change?

Well, it is an insurance policy, so you may pay for it for many years and not need it (if you're lucky). The first time I used it at our current house, I had had it in place for 7 years and the repair probably cost me what I had already given them in premiums. I used them twice this year, and so now I'm ahead of the game.

best thing we ever did (this worry free contract).

also, get the insurance too... our pipes burst in our front yard 3 weeks after we signed up for the insurance. Didn't see one nickle of a bill, and they repaired it within 48 hours. I never made one outgoing call to contractor, or had to deal with anything.

Friends had the same thing happen that fall (hint...the pipes from the street to your house in Maplewood are all the same age! old...this will happen to each and everyhousehold eventually)....cost them $13k and it was a nightmare dealing with the contractor.

I used it on my boiler a few times to get the pigtail replaced. But when I moved and cancelled my PSEG account I discovered it is impossible to discontinue your WorryFree contract. After many phone calls and complaints, I still am billed monthly for this WorryFree contract, despite not having a corresponding gas/electric service. It is impossible to get rid of and its been over a year.
