Questions on 8th-->9th Grade Math, English

So here are two questions:

On Math... For 8th graders having just completed level 5 Geometry and entering 9th grade in the fall, I know there were preliminary letters sent (March?) advising placement in 9th grade. Any idea when the confirm letters are going out? And what the grade cutoffs are?

On English... Have heard that the math grades count on the CHS transcript (yes?), but does anyone know if the equivalent LA grade does? If not (as I've heard), any idea why?

The grade cutoff for acc. math used to be C or better to stay in level. But the document link seems to be broken at the district website. Not sure if Geometry grade shows up on CHS transcript - have not seen it on my sophomore's transcript yet.

I tried checking, and couldn't get in. I thought it was a C, but wanted to be sure. Interesting about the transcript... tried looking but no clue where I'd find it. Which isn't surprising for the BOE or, to be fair, me either, but I'm usually pretty good at flushing these things out if I try hard enough.

From what I have been through, from having transcripts sent from SOMSD to another district, the raw grade is shown with the weighted grade used to calculate GPA, so if your child is taking Algrebra 2 as a 9th grader, a B will be weighted as a 4.0 rather than a 3.0, because your child is in honors.

I never saw a transcript with a GPA from SOMSD until my kid moved. At that point I saw not only raw GPA, but weighted GPA and class rank and class percentile. I have no idea if that info is given out to parents staying in district

At the beginning of sophomore year, the guidance counselor meets with the students and gives them a transcript with the raw GPA from 9th through 1st quarter of 10th. That transcript did not include the grades from Geometry taken in 8th. I have never seen anything written anywhere regarding policy for grades from accelerated math taken at high school while still in middle school.

We were told that the grades for 9th grade ELA and math would be on the transcript so that's odd that people are saying they're not.

I'm pretty sure it does and counts in HS GPA as well. My daughter (CHS '13) did this (Math), but I don't know if I could still put my hands on those papers to check.

Sigh. Thanks all. At least it's not just me.
