Removing adhesive and black scuff marks from polyurethane surfaces

Advice needed.

We have a polyurethane sealed concrete floor.

After 4 years there are some usually black spots that don't respond to warm soapy water.

Which products do you suggest and any special tips?

I've had good luck with the Krud Kutter family of cleaners. I think HD has a full line of them. Made by Rust-Oleum.

Any reaction to the wife's nail polish remover and be gentle?

I'm not sure how safe that is on poly. Maybe try it in a corner somewhere and see what happens. It could melt the finish.

Are they on top of the finish? They could be something that is in the pores of the concrete below.

Good point. What if you hit it with a light touch of fine sandpaper? You'll be able to tell if the stain is on or under the poly.

 Nail polish remover is acetone. Don’t use it. Use mineral spirits on a rag. Krud  kutter might dissolve the poly. Mineral spirits works well

Well, it depends on which Krud Kutter you use. There's a bunch of them.

But yeah, mineral spirits is not a bad choice either.

 Krud kutter is good for unfinished surfaces. The black scoff marks on the driveway floor is most likely from car tires and sneakers. Mineral spirits will remove it without affecting the poly. I stop using krud kutter years ago after it damaged my stove top. Way too strong.

You must have used the wrong variety. I use Krud Kutter in my kitchen all the time. It's my go-to general purpose cleanser these days. But I also have another kind that's more like Goo Gone.

Was years ago when they’re weren’t a variety I guess, it worked great on grease but dissolved the enamel on the stove. I’m still traumatized

Will try the mineral spirits.

This is the floor of our home, not a garage.  

Also, the spots are on top not underneath the finish.  All was sanded down to the concrete sub floor and applied on top of freshly poured finish concrete. Our building is made from poured concrete.

Then color and poly.

Would love to try the sand paper but all spots are in very visible places.

I'm sorry for your experience.

I'd be upset if I saw my stove enamel dissolve too.

Lemon essential oil might work.

Denatured alcohol will work and won’t mess up the poly. NOTE. Must be denatured alcohol. Not rubbing alcohol. 

Any comments on Goo Gone?

Should be ok. I think goo gone is similar to mineral spirits.

Have you tried stepping on a dry paper towel and moving your feet like you're doing The Twist? If that doesn't work, spray the paper towel with WD-40.
