Rheumatologist/Immunologist possible Lupus/CREST diagnosis

Hi

Trying to help a fellow community member who is not internet savvy find a rheumatologist or immunologist in this area.  They saw their primary doc and had a high ANA test, which is indicative of lupus or CREST disease.   Needs further evaluation.  Can anyone recommend a good specialist in this area or Manhattan

Thanks

20-30% of all normal healthy people have a positive ANA.  That in and of itself is NOT an indication of Lupus.  If there is a positive ANA along with symptoms such as joint pain, swelling, fevers, rash, and other abnormal labs such as low compliments and high C reactive protein (a sign of inflammation) then there is more cause for concern.  That being said...Jill Ritter at the Ambulatory Care Center or Summit Medical Group (Dr. Rosensweig?) is a good Rheumatology  group.

Atlantic Health Drs.....  I see Dr Weinberger.  Also Dr Lauren Kennish at SMG in BH

Dr Weinberger is one of the best and lives in S. Orange.

Thanks for some names.

judy3x, their ANA evel was over 1300!  The doctor who ran this test has recommended immediate evaluation to pinpoint what is causing this abnormally high level in case it falls.  As you may or may not be aware many of these autoimmune conditions are cyclical; so diagnosis is best made during active disease conditions as reflected by abnormal testing.

Yes that is high...I work with a pediatric rheumatologist and we Get numerous calls from panicked parents who are referred to us because their pediatrician told them they have lupus because of a positive ANA. Hope she gets to a rheumatologist soon.

The Institute for Rheumatology and Autoimmune Disorders at Overlook is really good. i use Dr. Mathur but all of their doctors are good and the office is very pleasant to work with.

My suspicion is lupus because they also have a rash on their face (very similar to the butterfly rash which I've observed before) plus signs of fatigue, joint pain and this person became very ill when they returned from a trip to Mexico recently (photo-sensitivity).   I was a bit shocked at the primary who did basically nothing to evaluate these symptoms.  The push came from an endocrinologist, whom they saw for what are probably related symptoms to whatever else is going on internally.

I have a friend with neuralgia, and handwriting is affected.  What kind of specialist -- and which one -- would one see for that?

I would think neurologist?
