Seniors need to go to school today, right?

Source of debate with prom-weary teen. She has to go to school, right

Many seniors will be 'sick' today. In past years, there was a manditory graduation rehearsal, but Principal Aron moved it to Wednesday.

Thanks. She ended up going as she was worried she would exceed allowed absence total in one class. I guess she will sleep all afternoon.

I always called my HS kids out on the post exam days except the grad rehearsal days for seniors and one year for one kid who was in absence trouble

Funny how those absences come back to bite.

Absences can indeed come back to bite, and they add up quickly.

Still ... Daughter showed up for 1st period (max's kid is in same class, I know because they were on same group project grin and the very strict, by the book,rule-observant teacher asked my kid what in heck she was doing at school. DD explained she had 8 absences in another (half year) class and teacher said, you get 9. Go home. I did not see you.

When BelovedDaughter had absence problems in her senior year, she was told that her 9 absences in a one semester class would void the credits. We had to provide letters (s!!) from pediatrician AND psychiatrist that her absences were medically unavoidable. Didn't matter that those classes had A averages, either.

Just got a text from my senior with questionable absence record: "I talked to a bunch of teachers like last year and it doesn't count even if it shows up on PowerSchool."

My response: "Too bad."

This was our experience also. My kids only went for grad practice and a few 'end of year' class parties. I called them out, just to make sure they wouldn't get a cut, but there were never any follow up notes nor were there ever any cuts charged
