Sleepaway camps last minute

So our rising 6th grader (boy) suddenly has decided he is open to sleepaway camp, after all. Obviously lots of spots are taken, but we're looking for a 2-week session, August 9-21st or so, sports and outdoor oriented with some arts. Upstate or Berkshires a little better for us--i.e. heading north. There are camps out there, but I'd prefer to get some personal recs--we loved Frost Valley, but it's filled.

Buck's Rock in New Milford CT is a lot of arts with some sports thrown in. Fabulous place , especially for the kid who is a bit of a square peg in a round hole

Frost Valley, where my kids are right now, mentioned that they have a few spots left.

My husband's best friend's daughter is there now as a counselor at the horseback riding camp at Frost Valley.

My child is also at Frost Valley and loving it! I also thought they had a few more spots open for fourth session.

Alas, no. I checked for that grade, boys, and they are full. Farm camp as well. My other son went there and had a great time, so we were very open to it.

My boss raves about this place. 2nd year for his middle school ageddaughter.

mtam, if your son is 11 or older, it looks like there are openings for Frost Valley's Adventure Village for Session 4 on their website. They sleep in platform tents and do some activities with the traditional camp, but also do more outdoor adventure-type stuff too.

Alas, he's a shade too young, thank you.

Have you checked out Fairview through the YMCA? It seems like that age group fills up faster than the lower grades so for next year you might want to take advantage of early registration. I think most camps are already registering for next year.

I checked, thank you!

Camp Speers of the Poconos might have spots

Surprise Lake is great. I worked there almost 15 yrs ago on their adventure course. Not sure about openings, but it's near Cold Spring/Pougkeepsie.

Camp Speers is great! My 14 year old has been going there for the last 4-5 years...there are usually a few SOMA/WO kids there as well.

I was a camper and a counselor there back in the day
