Snacks and junk food, no longer made.

I was looking to web order, "Squirrel Nut Zippers." Nope. Discontinued.

Then I remembered a Nabisco cookie, "Brown Edge Wafers." Zip. Nada. S.O.L.

But Bonamo's Turkish Taffee is still available

I did google snacks that weren't around and was disappointed to find the Entenmanns stopped making their French Butter Crumb cake.  And tic tacs doesn't make cinnamon flavor anymore.

I'm disappointed that Haagen Daz doesn't have vanilla with orange sorbet anymore - I have to research this.

Taco-flavored Doritos. I see they’re back in some places, but they’re not the same.

Pop tarts needs to bring back the Dutch Apple variety.  They migrated to apple cinnamon after they were discontinued.  Now it looks like the cinnamon ones were discontinued also.  Maybe I need to start a campaign.

ETA - did some research - they have a crisp apple variety that is frosted.  Just ordered - will report back on it.  From what I've read - they're using Granny Smith apples and may be a bit tarter than the old variety.

I used to look forward to getting a Twinkie when I would donate blood.  Sadly no more, but I think they still are made somewhere.

Maybe this is an opportunity to branch out and do some market research. I was at the Morrise Ave Shop Rite last weekend and saw that PopTarts have gotten a little crazy with the different renditions available. Lemon Creme and Lord knows what else. There was a whole endcap of different types. It was a little much for a frosted blueberry or strawberry guy like me, not that I should stop eating that stuff or anything.

Twinkies are back - they went away for a little but should be readily available everywhere - like Stop and shop.  Unless something else happened in the past few months.

The entemanns blueberry danish (long rectangle) and danish ring.

About 40 years ago, there was a chocolate flower (daisy) shaped cookie with fudge cream sticking out of the hole...was made at the same place that made girl scout cookies in elizabeth--next to the shoprite on the corner of newark/north ave (by Stop and ShoP0

they changed the recipe for vegetable things and they aren't the veggie shape any more

Target used to have a chocolate cereal bar.  And vanilla cookies with raspberry (CVS might still have something similar)

they started making twinkies again...i see them a lot although i haven't looked lately

Twinkies went south when Hostess went bankrupt. The name and rights to the product were purchased by another bakery.

they are still sold as Twinkies

from wiki

On March 18, 2013, it was reported that Twinkies would return to store
shelves in May of that year. Twinkies, along with other Hostess Brands,
were purchased out of bankruptcy by Apollo Global Management and
Metropoulos & Co for $410 million.[19][20]
Twinkies returned to U.S. shelves on July 15, 2013.[21] Apollo subsequently sold Hostess for $2.3 billion

I've got to admit, the band is the only Squirrel Nut Zippers I had ever heard of.  Had no idea it was a food item.

What kind of food were they?  I generally avoid dishes with the words "squirrel" or "possum" in the name.

A Squirrel Nut Zipper is a delicious vanilla nut caramel that was first introduced in 1926 by the Squirrel Brand Company whose primary products are nuts. Squirrel Brand's managers developed the formula for a vanilla nut caramel to complement their chocolate caramel candy. The only thing missing was a name.

One of the managers came across an article in a local newspaper documenting the arrest for public drunkenness of a resident who had to be talked down from a tree by the police. When they got him down and asked him to explain himself he said "it must have been the Nut Zipper" referring to a local alcoholic concoction that was popular at the time. Squirrel Brand's managers decided that this would be the perfect name for our new candy.

Not exactly on topic, but my feel good when I am sick food was Uneeda Biscuit crackers... my mom used to break in Campbells soup or put butter on them was our go to.  Expectant friends loved them for morning sickness as well. Need my Uneeda!

Cool. One of the original members, Tom Maxwell, was a recognizable campus character at UNC. I was never sure how much of my familiarity was due to that connection or a reflection of their actual popularity.

There was a neo-swing revival in the '90s when I was at VH1, and we played videos by the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and Brian Setzer Orchestra.  It's weird how certain songs and bands take me right back to sitting at that desk in my office at 1515 Broadway.  Definitely those swing bands, as well as Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Sister Hazel, and Sheryl Crow's second album.  Those songs were played and played on the channel back then, and a lot of them just kind of disappeared from radio and TV in the years since.

Not something I miss, but as junky as it got - cannot believe my mother bought us Hawaiian Punch, the red kind, out of a can. Yet we were not allowed soda, as it wasn’t “good for us.”

I guess their branding that highlighted - Vitamin C and Real Fruit juices worked.

This got me curious - Hawaian Punch isn't on this list but it shows other juices vs soda:

I don’t know about other folks, but when I drink fruit juice, it’s almost always in a smaller quantity than a can of soda.

It might not have been too healthy, but Hawaiian Punch was a pretty good bargain considering the cost they must have incurred transporting it in from the islands.

Just this week, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones announced their breakup.

And they were good. I got into 'em when daughter asked me to pick up a bag in the Manchester General Store. I never had 'em before. I got the bag. Very few of 'em made it back to Maplewood.

Then.... in November, Scully and I went to Manchester. Back to the Manchester General store. It is now an antique shop.

Then I find that, not only is the store gone, but the item I went innit for....

MIA Sara Lee's Chocolate Brownies in the frozen food section.

I swear I saw SNZ at the candy store near me in Hackettstown.

Now I have to go and see....
