Son Bitten by Dog, Please Help find Owner/Dog

My son was walking to school on Tuesday morning (9/8) along Summit Ave crossing Plymouth Ave in Maplewood. There was a short woman with dark brown hair in a ponytail walking a large golden brown dog. As my son passed them, the dog lunged at him and bit him in the backside. He didn't realize that he had been bitten until later at school. If anyone recognizes this woman or dog, please pm me or call 917-359-2670.

This is at least the 2nd time something like this has happened.....even as an adult it has taught be to always check completely if there was any contact with a strange dog even if i don't think anything happened...

i would also file a police report at this time....

Notify the Maplewood Health Department of this incident ASAP. Provide as much information as you can. While it is unlikely that the dog that bit your son is rabid, it may be prudent to start rabies shots for your son if the dog cannot be identified quickly.

Are you able to walk with your son for a couple of mornings? You might spot her.

Thanks everyone. We saw the doctor and, yes, it is unlikely that the dog is rabid. I also spoke with Mr. Roe at the Health Department and gave him what information we have. I am still searching for the women, to check on the dog's records.

I agree with @blianderson People walking their own dogs or professionally hired dog walkers are typically creatures of habit and usually walk at around the same time and take the same route. So if you follow your son's route you might be able to locate her yourself.

Yes. Well worth trying, if you can.

I hope this doesn't cause any lasting trauma to your son in reference to dogs. Poor guy. I hope you find the dog. Is it possible that the owner didn't realize that the dog bit him?

No sign of lasting trauma. My son is in high school, by the way. I think it's very possible the owner didn't realize it was a bite, my son didn't really realize until he got to school and sat down.

We are still trying to locate this dog and owner. A short woman with dark brown hair in a pony tail and possibly wearing glasses. A large golden brown dog with short smooth hair and a dark snout. Any information would be appreciated.
