One of the kids received some crap in a gift bag recently -- it's a rubbery like hand that sticks to walls and crap. Usually, I go through the bags and take out nonsense like this, but I missed this one. Anyway, one of the boys tossed this orangey, rubber hand up to our ceiling and I couldn't get it down for days. I finally got it down today and noticed that not only did it stain the ceiling with color, it left some oily residue behind. Has this ever happened to anyone and if so, can the stain be removed?
Had a whole bunch of these toys until I figured out that they left some oily residue on the ceiling. Not sure what it is, but it did sort of fade over time. Or I stopped looking.
I'm so pissed! I could ignore the oily residue, but the color stain is what's pissing me off. The problem is that this ceiling is very high and pitched. I had to stand on a bar chair with a broom to get it off, and the whole time it was just clumping and rolling around -- ANNOYING! Goo Gone may be a start, but I can't reach that high with it. I guess it's ladder time. I'm so ANGRY! Please parents, STOP INCLUDING THOSE AWFUL THINGS IN THE GIFT BAGS! They serve no purpose other than to start a rant on MOL!
FWIW can we stop with the gift bag crap? If I get ONE MORE trinket from Oriental Traders or Party Express I'm gonna lose it. Save the two bucks, say thanks for coming, and we're off happy and without the clutter.
Supposedly the oily residue from that Fun Tack stuff (the blue sticky stuff we all ruined our walls and posters with as teens) can be removed with lighter fluid, so that might be worth testing in an inconspicuous spot. Goo gone says it can be used to remove oily things like kitchen grease and bicycle grease, but keep in mind that one of its active ingredients is citrus oil, so make sure it's not going to leave a bigger oily spot on your paint. If it looks like it will work, consider getting the spray bottle of the new gel version of goo gone, might be easier to apply to the ceiling and stay on the spot.
Or maybe just give it some time and see if it fades and/or you forget about it.
