The 1/6 Committee Hearings

It certainly looks like these folks had a plan going into 1/6.

Retired Federal Judge J. Michael Luttig is testifying today. He was advising Pence.

Portion of his opening, and you can find the whole thing at the link

"America’s democracy was almost stolen from us on January 6. Our democracy has never been tested like it was on that day and it will never be tested again as it was then if we learn the lessons of that fateful day. On the other hand, if we fail to learn the lessons that are there to be learned, or worse, deny even that there are lessons there to be learned, we will consign ourselves to another January 6 in the not-too-distant future, and another after that, and another after that. While for some, that is their wish, that cannot be our wish for America."

Finally a discussion of the actual language of the 12th Amendment

Don't think I've ever read the 12th. And that's still true now. I looked it up and my eyes glazed over.

How could they make tabulating an election result so damn complicated?

I can't describe the feelings I have about the testimony of Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman at yesterday's hearing.

A combination of anger, frustration, pathos and who knows what else. Just infuriated.

Why is no one in jail for what they did to these women?

Maddow did a good piece on them on Monday night. Starts at 10 minutes.

I totally agree.  How on Earth isn't someone charging T**** with slander?  He completely ruined their names and lives.

It looks like with the discovery of the documentary that was filmed of Trump during 2020, hearings will be delayed until July, though tomorrow's hearing will go on as scheduled.

This could be more revealing than the Watergate tapes.

Johnson also called 2016 Russian interference a non-story after coming back from spending Fourth of July 2018 in Moscow. Most Wisconsin politicians spend America’s Independence Day in their hometowns. I hope Shaye and Lady Ruby sue the pants off trump and Giuliani for all they're worth. Their testimonies were incredibly powerful.
Our very future lies in the hands of Atty Gen Garland to do something in light of all these outrageous acts by trump and his cohorts. It's hard to be hopeful, in the face of such outrage, that anything will be done.

I'm out of the country so a little behind on this but... Whoa!

Yeah, the director is being completely cooperative with the committee.

As a director, I encourage all Directors to do the same.

oops. should I have capitalized?

No, that was my mistake. I was just thinking it would be great if everyone would cooperate with the committee.

It seems like there's plenty of evidence already to connect T**** and his henchmen to the insurrection.

Yet, he will still probably be the nominee and will get votes from a good portion of the country.

His grift and con over his "followers" is non-stop. I'm getting around 10 emails a day from his team.

The main question is - will he ever be held accountable?

What strikes me as amazing and fortunate thank God, is that there was no gun firing (except for the one woman shot as she broke through the indoor window) at the Jan. 6 riot.  The rioters did not shoot although many of them had guns.  The police did not shoot.  What was a terrible event could have been much worse.  Also, the planted bombs did not off.

If DC didn’t have such strict gun laws, more of the 1/6 rioters would have been armed.

But the Supreme Court is working on getting rid of laws like that.

What result? If they had been armed and started shooting at the police wouldn't the police have shot back?

How many dead cops would there be? How many dead Fascists thugs would there be?

GOP members of Congress were asking for pardons. Gaetz was asking for one in December.

Edited to add -

Committee has scheduled an unexpected hearing for Tuesday, 1pm. They mentioned recently received evidence, so this might include stuff from the documentary.

Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony is so damning that I expect the usual suspects here to accuse her of being a Deep State agent.

Good summary of today’s hearing.

Even Foxnews.com reported Hutchinson's testimony,  blow-by-blow.

Trump lunged at Secret Service agent who said he couldn't go to Capitol on January 6: aide

Cassidy Hutchinson is a New Jersey native, as reported by the Washington Post.

"Hutchinson interned for House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) before becoming a White House intern the summer before her senior year at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va. But the New Jersey native has not had a full-time job since leaving the White House.

After returning to college that fall, Hutchinson said being selected to work in the executive mansion brought tears to her eyes.

“As a first-generation college student, being selected to serve as an intern alongside some of the most intelligent and driven students from across the nation — many of whom attend top universities — was an honor and a tremendous growing experience,” she told her university in October 2018.

She once told her alma mater: “I have set a personal goal to pursue a path of civic significance.”

Lots of “Holy ****’s” today, but Ithink this qualifies:

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) says she is “tired” of the long-standing separation between church and state in the U.S., adding that she believes “the church is supposed to direct the government.”

Cassidy Hutchinson has shown the world that it takes a set of ovaries to stand up to Trumpenstein’s madness,  balls are useless..

Congresswoman Boebert would be much happier in Iran

What a bunch of nonsense.  Show trials are just another sign we're hurtling towards 3rd world status.

Well, there is a lot of nonsense in your post.  The Republicans were given every opportunity to mount a defense and they refused.

I think some of them may be regretting that about now.  Perhaps you are as well.

As for any perceived move towards the Third World, a lot of the blame is going to have to rest with the group that tried to violently overthrow the duly elected government even if they were frustrated in their desire to lynch the Vice President of the United States.
