This is not an April Fools joke: Winter Weather Advisory Overnight Sunday - Monday Snow Likely

We are looking at a quick 1 - 2" starting after midnight and falling moderately through mid-morning Monday.  Could be a messy commute but will melt by dinnertime.

Grumble... grumble....

When I posted about an upcoming snowstorm a couple of years ago, it *WAS* an April Fools joke.

I'm dreaming of a white Easter

With every Easter egg in snow.

Where it sure seems funny

That the Easter bunny

Leaves tracks in the white stuff as he goes...

what's the best guess right now on timing? Ending midday or early in the am on Monday? Who would have thought an April flight might be affected by a snow storm!

Max,

You are not supposed to use 4 letter words on MOL.

The NWS stole my headline!

"This is not an April Fools joke! There is snow in the forecast for the first half of Monday. A winter weather advisory is in effect from 2 am to 2 pm Monday. A general 2 to 4 inches of snow is forecast and there is potential for 1 inch per hour snowfall rates during the Monday AM commute."

Most models right now are showing about a six-hour period of snow sometime between midnight and two pm.  Most likely is 5 or 6 until noon.

If only the schools could have their half day on the afternoon.

I’m seeing 49% chance of 1-3” but now a 34% chance if 3-6”?!?!?

It's called a delayed opening.

Yeah, but a delayed opening on a half day wouldn’t be enough hours to count, and tomorrow is a half day

Some changes to the forecast for the overnight snow event. There will be a Winter Weather Advisory from 2:00 am Monday morning until 2:00 pm. The NWS has also increased projected snow totals here to 4 - 6"

The previous system, which gave us this afternoon's sun and warm, almost seasonal, temperatures has been a bit slow to depart, so the start of the next one will be a bit delayed. Now not expecting the snow to really start until 4 - 6 tomorrow morning, with a period of rain perhaps first as temperatures at the surface will not be able to get below freezing.

Moderate snow for a period is almost a certainty Monday morning, probably snarling the commute. Because the snow is coming late, unless it gets heavy (which it could for a period) the surface temps will never drop below freezing, so accumulations on the roads will be less than on the grass, and the whole thing will probably melt by dinnertime. Also, if the precipitation continues past noon and is not particularly heavy, it is likely to change back over to rain.

Altogether, I think the NWS is again being conservative and overstating the snow totals as they did with the last storm. However, their analysis is supported by some of the model output and should not be disregarded. Since the real issue with this system is road conditions as the snow is falling, the difference between 2" - 4" and 4" - 6" is not as important as visibility and road slickness.

The whole thing is quick, and will be over in 6 - 8 hours.

if you had a choice of a 7am or 1pm flight tomorrow, which would you pick?

nope, don’t want to a miss a vacation day.

Then I would say 7 - there shouldn't be much going on at that time.

We thought the same. Switched it to the 7am. Hopefully we'll beat it out. Seemed like plenty of seats later in the day if it's bad. I'm a gambler lol

It's better than bits of Chinese space station landing on our heads anyway.

A Chinese space station  the size of a bus fell out of orbit into the Pacific(?). Don't know if anything actually reached the ground though.

And it was over Brazil. We’re safe

Sorry. There was an extremely remote chance that space lab could have fallen pretty much anywhere on the planet ... hence my attempt at humor.

Now who can explain how they'll do a 2-hour delayed opening on a half day? We just got the call.

Behold the two hour school day. Why bother?

Forecast on track this morning, looking a bit quicker with the bulk of the snow falling between now and 10am.  2" - 4" total.

I refuse to shovel today.

Just got a second call. The schools are now dismissing at the usual time ... the half day is cancelled. So two hour delayed opening and normal dismissal.

WTF does that even mean?

This originally was scheduled as a day with no lunch. Don't know if they can call in the cafeteria workers at this late hour, so it might be a good idea to brown-bag it just in case.
