Tie an Orange Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree for Laura

To honor and pay tribute to my friend Laura, I am tying an orange ribbon around a tree in my front yard. I picked orange as the definition seemed to define her.

Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

It would be beautiful to see Maplewood and South Orange strewn in orange!

What a lovely tribute. I must go out and get some orange ribbon

"orange is also stimulating to the appetite. If you love having people around the kitchen table, orange will keep them talking and eating for a long time. Many restaurants use pastel versions of orange, such as apricot or peach or deeper versions such as terracotta, for their décor as they are more subtle than red, yet still increase the appetite and promote conversation and social interaction, which in turn encourages patrons to have a good time and to eat and drink more."

Will have to look for an orange ribbon - don't have one at present. I do have orange yarn, though. Maybe I'll knit one and tie it around the tree.

Cody: I am in the same situation and was thinking of doing exactly the same thing but with crochet.

We should consider wearing something Orange to her service.

I can't bring myself to wear all black. Its just not Laura.

Friends of Laura Nichols, the South Orange mother, businesswoman and community fixture who passed away Friday morning, are coordinating an initiative to adorn South Orange and Maplewood trees with orange ribbons.

Nichols’ friend Mary Marzano said her sister, Ann Marzano Bauer, chose orange because it “combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow” and “is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation” — qualities that seem to define Nichols.

I will join in with an orange ribbon in WO .. Michaels should have orange ribbon for those looking ..

I have some extra old oak trees on the median in front of my house if anyone needs one. PM for address. Warning: they have very wide trunks.

Orange crepe paper works great.

Thanks George = I was wondering where/how to get a ribbon today.

I just affixed a large orange indian sari scarf outside of our dining room window to blow in the wind. Seems so appropriate since I bought it at Unique Thrift Store and Laura loved that store as much as I do.

Home Depot had orange duct tape.

Wouldn't duct tape be harmful to the trees?

No Joan, it is actually used to repair branches and bark.

There will be an orange ribbon flying in North Carolina.....alas on a black walnut but I am sure it won't matter.

Thanks Mem. Good to know.

Target has orange streamer. I have a big roll if anyone in the Tuscan school area wants to come get some

ETA - well, anyone can come get some. I am convenient to the Tuscan school area.

Crocheted orange ribbon now on tree on Prospect.

Ribbon up on Ridgewood.

All,

Thanx to @new207040 I now have a supply of Orange Ribbon in store.

Also, Thanx again to her, there is no cost. I has been donated.

While the supply lasts, come in with an idea of how many feet you need and we will provide it and cut it.

Even though we are in CT, I'm considering yarn bombing a tree in orange and other bright colors. I will be the only one up here who knows what it's about, but maybe it will make me feel better.

P.S., I think the idea of wearing orange to the wake or funeral is something she would have loved.

Ribbon up at The UPS Store.

You know who, thank you for helping me tie the Bow!
