Time to lend a helping hand

By now most everyone has seen the utter devastation that is the Florida Pan Handle

Hundreds if not thousands of people have lost their homes,  places of employment and actual neighborhoods. And yet in that indomitable spirit that characterizes so many, they are saying that they're down but not out.

Major broadcasters are  saying everything is needed in the area;  food water clothing etc.  However to donate thusly would set up a logistical nightmare

This is a time to work with those skilled at this sort of thing .  Donate dollars not till it hurts but give up that meal at the Pub, at Coda  at Cassidys....even Village Coffee and make your contribution.

My favorite domestic charity is the Salvation Army.  Yep those Santa clad bell ringers or blue uniformed personnel. You would be surprised at their involvement in disaster relief and a myriad of

social services.  Even now they have set up food distribution locations down there. A full 100% of your donation goes directly to disaster relief........unlike other charities where so much goes to executive salaries,  conferences etc.  Web sites are easy to find or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY

If not the bell ringers give to the  charity of your choice.  It's here and its now.

Thanks for the info, Author.  A man who was grateful to have survived said that the only thing he owns now are the clothes on his back.

dailymail.co.uk: Death Toll from Hurricane Michael Expected to Rise Dramatically

" I had no shoes and I complained until"

The compassionate thing would be to help.

OTOH, that area, the panhandle is deep red. They vote for politicians that deny global warming and refuse to do the necessary engineering to alleviate these disasters.

In 1953, Holland, had a North Sea flood with an 18 ft tidal surge. Over 1800 people lost their lives. 50,000 buildings were damaged, 10,000 homes destroyed. 9% of the countries farmland was flooded.

Did the Dutch stick their heads in the sand? Did they pray that that this would not reoccur? No. They elected politicians who took care of the problem.

They built the Delta project. Since then there has been very minimal North Sea damage and I believe no loss of life.

Here, its hurricane disaster, cry for aid, elect and re-elect politicians who only offer thoughts and prayers, rinse, repeat.

Aren't these the same voters who don't want no stoopid gubmit interfering in their lives?

Over many years of travel we visited quite a few places .    At one point we were in Charleston strolling among some of the lovely sea side residences.

At some point we stopped at a cafe for one of the ubiquitous portions of ice tea.    We found out  that many years earlier Charleston had been devastated by a hurricane that visited the area.   Damages to the housing was extensive.   The rebuilding process began.

Some one came up with the idea of installing "hurricane rods  in all new buildings"   These are steel

rods that run the length of the building and give great reinforcement to the whole structure.   A great idea which apparently never took hold in the building industry.

As far as providing aid and comfort to down and out victims .............when some one is found bleeding on the street,  the EMT's never ask them their politics.
