Tuesday (1/29) weather snow then rain then snow again

Tuesday's (1/29) system models a lot like the last one, albeit a bit dryer.  Snow in the morning quickly turns to rain.  Moderate rain at times during the day, steady rain Tuesday night probably turns back to snow towards Wed morning.  Icing possible at changeover but not likely.  Maybe an inch or two of snow by morning.

Wednesday colder, with a chance of snow squalls.  Should a squall happen, snow could be heavy for a short time.  Wed night very cold but dry.

The hourly area weather report shows temps from the mid to high thirties during the period of most precip.  Not sure that guarantees no snow.

The weather report is really status quo from yesterday.  Mostly rain, little or no accumulation.

Note that things get much worse west and north, and pretty quickly, too.  Winter weather advisories in adjacent NJ counties of Morris and Passaic, winter storm warnings in Sussex, PA, and upstate NY.

Doesn't look like much tomorrow.

We’re getting reports of bitter cold all over the USA; how are you actually faring? Is it worse than a usual winter cold snap there?

Brutal..absolulty brutal. The city of Chicago is expecting  temps of -30 F (can't translate to C,sorry). Highs in So Orange tomorrow expected to top out at 15F. Brrrrrrrrrrrr Much worse than average.

Well, I’m sending you all the excess heat from here - wish it helped in real life!

We could do with a break from temps in the 90degreeF range, or well over 100 degrees daytime, and humidity in the 90% - no rain to speak of since November, or perhaps October. (Send us any wet you don’t want)

Seriously: am thinking of you all, and hoping all can find a way to stay warm and dry especially if you need to be out and about.

You just have to dress for the weather.

The Arrowhead 135 bike race went ahead as planned in International Falls, Minnesota.

our media is full of reports and health warnings that you can't stay out for more than 10 mins at a time, or breathe deeply, or talk when you're outside! I'm surprised you could actually ride a bicycle! oh oh

Delighted it's relatively easily handled, if you have the resources. Hope there's enough soup and cocoa to go around.

Worse than average but, here in MAPSO, we have these cold snaps pretty much every year.  Was it last year or the year before that we dipped below 0 (f)?

1-3 inches went from 20% to 2% chance.

This in from town:

The Dehart Community Center located at 120 Burnett Ave. will open today as a warming center for those seeking shelter from the freezing temperatures. It will be open until 10:00pm this evening. Anyone seeking shelter after it closes should go to the Police Department for assistance.

I'm not sure how long it will last but it sure is snowing right now here in SO.

Heavy snow in Maplewood too.

we have a squall

Crazy wind in SO.  Given the cold that is on the way I hope the power holds up.

We just had white-out conditions in WO.

We had white-out conditions in Maplewood a few minutes ago, and now it seems to be over (or paused).

It's starting to snow in the NYC.

Seems to be over now.  Mostly a coating.

yeah but now the ground’s wet and it’s 15 degrees out.

I was in Maplewood today to get an estimate on some work.  Before leaving I called my husband and said I might have trouble driving home with the snow being as crazy as it was.  He was confused and asked "What snow?"  Just 40 miles west it was bright and sunny while that crazy windy snow was hitting in Maplewood.

just read this suggestion and it’s a good one. If you can wait two more weeks to put out your recycling  do so. It’ll be one less can that those poor men working outside will have to schlep. Maybe help finish their rounds more quickly. Same goes

for trash

I disagree.  Yes we had a bad spell last year, but I've lived here over 30 years and I only recall a handful of times in the low single digits or below zero.  I expect that, with climate change progressing, we will see more of these extreme swings so it may become a more frequent thing ... perhaps even "pretty much every year", but that hasn't been the case in the past.

sac, interesting you say that. Our BOM released figures this morning showing that January was the hottest month ever on record nationally since records began, for Australia. Some of those records go back quite a way.

When you look at the heat bands globally, for January, we really burned brightly.

Today, almost catastrophic flooding in some of the hottest northern places, and most fire-prone places with almost no water left.

At least we didn't get the brutal cold that the midwest got, though some people decided to have fun with it...
