Tuscan & South Orange Country Day School

Does anyone have a child at Tuscan and one at SOCDS? I'm considering this set-up for next year but am concerned that an 8:30 drop off at SOCDS and 8:45 drop at Tuscan will be crazy stressful with rush hour traffic and finding parking near Tuscan, etc. Would love to hear from anyone who does this successfully and/or from anyone who decided against either school for similar reasons. THANK YOU!

I don't have kids at either school, but I am often driving from home, which is roughly in the SOCDS neighborhood, down through the general Tuscan vicinity at about this time of the morning. 15 minutes is not enough time. You have to make it through several major intersections with lights, and both Prospect and Valley can be very putt-putt during rush hour. And that's before you even have to deal with parking and bringing the second kid to the school.

We don't have that exact setup, but just for reference, Country Day dropoff is anytime betwee 8:30 and 9. Don't know if that helps or hurts but thought I'd mention it!

Thanks...I don't think it helps or hurts since it leaves us the same 15 minute window... What happens if you get there at 9:05?

They tend to be more flexible about arriving early than late. You might be best off getting into the early care program. Perhaps you could see if you can arrange an 8:20 dropoff? You might have to pay a few dollars for it but it sounds like that would solve your problem.

I have a friend who drops off at SoCDS in the morning and I'm fairly sure she gets there around 8:25 for the regular drop off. You should ask them about how early you can regularly arrive. Also, Tuscan is a little flexible as well (so if you end up just a few minutes late some days it shouldn't be a major issue). I find Valley to be a trafficky mess in the morning, but Ridgewood and Prospect are both quicker, so it may also be somewhat a matter of just finding the fastest route...

Our dtr goes to SOCDS and they have early dropoff/before care. Drop off can be from 7:30am on. Also, they are not rigid at all with regular dropoff. They are more than accommodating and the school is fantastic. Speak to Ms Annmarie Maini at 973-762-6451. Feel free to PM me.
